The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice (SCCJ) invites applications for an Assistant Director of Student Affairs/Professor of Practice to begin in the fall of 2017.  This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, nontenure-track faculty position that is renewable on an annual basis contingent upon satisfactory performance,  availability of resources, and School needs. The Assistant Director of Student Affairs will be required to be physically present on ASU’s campus in Downtown Phoenix, Arizona, although travel to other ASU campuses in Arizona (in Tempe, Glendale, Yuma, and Lake Havasu City) may be infrequently required.

Job Duties:

The specific responsibilities of the position include the following:

  • Assisting the Director and Associate Director of the SCCJ with all aspects of undergraduate academic programs;
  • Working with academic advising staff to conduct assessment of SCCJ learning outcomes;
  • Mediating or otherwise resolving grade appeals and grievances filed by students;
  • Representing the SCCJ at various recruitment and retention events, including new student orientations;
  • Developing internship opportunities for students with a wide variety of justice-related agencies and employers;
  • Maintaining solid professional relations with internship partnerships;
  • Advertising and promoting the SCCJ internship program;
  • Managing all aspects of the SCCJ internship program, including overseeing student enrollment in internships and compliance with all relevant risk management processes and procedures;
  • Developing and delivering internship training sessions;
  • Supervising student interns;
  • Participating in curriculum development, program planning, student advisement, and academic success initiatives; and
  • Teaching one course per semester in the person’s area(s) of expertise, if feasible.

Required Qualifications:

Successful applicants must demonstrate the ability to contribute to the mission of the School and College through teaching and service.  In addition, the following qualifications are required: 

  • An earned master’s degree in criminology, criminal justice, or a related social scientific field from a regionally-accredited university;
  • At least three years of undergraduate teaching experience; and
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness. 

Desired Qualifications:

  • A doctoral degree in criminology, criminal justice, or a related social scientific field from a regionally-accredited university;
  • At least five years of undergraduate teaching experience;
  • Academic advising experience; and
  • One or more years of experience in student judicial affairs.
