FACULTY POSITION

Idaho State University

Idaho State University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position in Physics to teach graduate and undergraduate physics courses August 14, 2017 – May 11, 2018. Candidates with the potential to interface with our current research programs will be preferred and also encouraged to apply for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to start in August 2018. The principle research emphasis of the program is on applications of nuclear science using the Idaho Accelerator Center (IAC), a large accelerator research center at ISU with more operating research accelerators than any other university in North America. Research areas include nuclear physics, pulsed power, novel radiation beams, accelerator physics, photon activation analysis, medical isotope development and commercialization, non-destructive evaluation and materials analysis, and homeland security and nuclear non-proliferation/safeguards. In addition, the Physics Program has ongoing research collaborations with several national laboratories. IAC resources include an S-Band 6 kW electron LINAC, a 44 MeV LINAC capable of picosecond pulses, a Tri-MeV 30 kA pulse power accelerator, a 7 MeV 12 kA pulsed electron accelerator, and a 2 MeV positive-ion Van de Graaff. The physics program offers B.S. & M.S. degrees in Physics and a Ph.D. in Applied Physics. Salary is competitive. Located in the heart of the Northern Rockies, ISU is within a few hours drive of Yellowstone, the Tetons, Sun Valley, world-class skiing facilities in northern Utah, and numerous fishing, rafting and mountain-biking opportunities. Consideration of applications will begin immediately, and continue until the position is filled. Ph.D. in physics and some teaching experience required.
