The Department of Classics seeks a dynamic and dedicated teacher/scholar. Expertise in classical languages and literature is essential. Teaching responsibilities include Latin and Greek language courses at all levels; classics courses taught in English; and, every three or four years, a January-term study abroad course in either Greece or Italy. The successful candidate will be expected to teach periodically in The Great Conversation program. Applicants should have completed a Ph.D. in Classics or a related field by September 1, 2018. Computer Science

The Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science seeks a Computer Scientist with the energy and enthusiasm to teach a wide range of undergraduate courses in computer science at all academic levels, emphasizing hands-on pedagogy, team projects, incorporation of forward-looking technologies, and interdisciplinary applications. We welcome applicants interested in mentoring undergraduate researchers and in supporting women and other underrepresented populations in computer science. Review of applications begins October 15, 2017, continuing until the position is filled.

East Asian History

The Departments of Asian Studies and History announce a position, jointly-appointed, for a scholar with teaching and research interests in East Asian History in a global perspective. Specialists in China, Japan or Korea are welcome. Regular teaching responsibilities include courses in East Asian history at all levels: national and transnational surveys, topical seminars, and interdisciplinary courses on Asia. We welcome candidates with interests in fields such as gender studies, ethnic studies or environmental studies. A commitment to experiential learning through international study, internships and undergraduate student research projects is highly desirable. Application review will begin on October 1, 2017.

Environmental Studies & Religion

The Departments of Environmental Studies and Religion seek a candidate whose teaching and scholarship explore the relationships between religion and the environment and who will provide vision and leadership within the environmental arts and humanities. Attention to the ways that these areas intersect with environmental racism and marginalized communities are of significant interest. The successful candidate will demonstrate potential for developing scholarship that invites participation by undergraduate students. Freshwater Ecosystem Ecologist

The Biology and Environmental Studies Departments at St. Olaf College invite applications for a joint position with research expertise in freshwater ecosystem ecology. Teaching assignments will include Ecological Principles and interdisciplinary core courses in Environmental Studies as well as advanced courses that might include limnology, biogeochemistry, isotope ecology or remote sensing and GIS or other courses as dictated by the specific interests and expertise of the candidate. Potential for developing a productive research program suitable for both undergraduate collaboration and external funding are required; postdoctoral research is strongly preferred. Application review

Law and Economics

The Department of Economics seeks a colleague in law and economics with a commitment to an active and innovative scholarly career and to interdisciplinary teaching and inquiry. Preference will be given to candidates who are able to demonstrate a potential for collaborative research with undergraduates. This position will provide annual access to an endowed fund to support professional activity. A Ph.D. in economics is expected. Review of applications will begin on November 15, 2017, and all applications completed by December 1, 2017, will receive full consideration for interviews at the ASSA meetings in January 2018.


The Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science seeks an applied mathematician with expertise in biological applications and a demonstrated commitment to supporting a thriving and diverse undergraduate mathematics program. Responsibilities include teaching a variety of undergraduate mathematics courses, leading and growing the five-course mathematical biology concentration, developing and maintaining an active research program, and contributing to the department's commitment to research by and involving undergraduates. Review of applications will begin November 15, 2017. Candidates whose applications are complete by December 1, 2017 will be considered for interviews at the January 2018 Joint Mathematics Meetings.


The Norwegian department seeks a teacher/scholar to teach Norwegian language courses at all levels, as well as Norwegian literature courses (in Norwegian or in English translation). Additionally, there will be opportunities to teach specialized courses or in interdisciplinary programs. A commitment to experiential learning through international study is highly desirable. Ph.D., native or near-native competence in Norwegian (Bokmål), demonstrated superior teaching skills and scholarly promise required. Applicants are expected to have a completed Ph.D. in hand by August 15, 2018. Review of applications will begin on January 5, 2018.

Political Science

The Department of Political Science at St. Olaf College invites applications for a full-time, position in international political economy. We are looking for candidates who would teach courses in international relations and contribute to interdisciplinary coursework in one of the following programs: Russian Area Studies, Middle East Studies, or African Studies. The ideal candidate should have broad expertise in both the theory and practice of international political economy. Applicants are expected to have a completed Ph.D. in hand by August 15, 2018. Review of applications will begin on August 30, 2017.


The Department of Psychology seeks a social psychologist whose work focuses on issues of culture, diversity, stereotyping, prejudice, or social justice. Teaching responsibilities include courses in social psychology, research methods with lab, and advanced courses in a self-selected area of specialization. Applicants should have potential for conducting an active program of research with undergraduates. A completed Ph.D. in social psychology or a closely related area by the time of the appointment is preferred. Review of applications will begin October 2, 2017.
