President
Partners 4 Affordable Excellence @EDU

Partners 4 Affordable Excellence @ EDU, a relatively new 501-c-3 foundation dedicated to improving public higher education affordability and access, seeks a dynamic, experienced higher education leader and change agent to become its President.  The individual assuming this position will foster partnerships with public sector higher education officials, elected officials, governing board members, and foundations that will enable the foundation to meet its affordability and accessibility goals while enhancing educational quality.

The President must be a skilled negotiator with political acumen who interacts easily with governors and their staffs, legislative leaders and their staffs, higher education associations, federal agencies, foundations and non-profits.  External organizations that are critical to Partners include the National Governors Association and National Conference of State Legislators.

The President must possess fundraising skills and the ability “to close” gift and funding initiatives.  A vice president whose primary responsibility is fund-raising reports to the President.

As the Foundation’s focal spokesperson, the President must be an effective public speaker, author persuasive op-eds, and interact skillfully with members of the media.

The President will oversee all substantive administrative responsibilities necessary to operate a successful nonprofit foundation. This includes managing all administrative duties related to the Foundation’s Board and staff, supervising and monitoring the Foundation’s major initiatives, overseeing day-to-day business operations, developing and monitoring the budget, and managing or directing all personnel and vendor interactions.

The President should have extensive knowledge of and experience in public higher education and possess a solid understanding of contemporary fiscal and policy environments affecting public universities.  He/she should have current contacts among key constituencies and/or the ability to develop such contacts quickly.  The President must exhibit a genuine passion for promoting affordable excellence in higher education.  Executive experience in higher education, government, business or nonprofit enterprises is highly desirable, as is a willingness to make a three-year commitment to this endeavor.

While the geographic focus of Partners currently is the Mid-Atlantic region with emphasis upon Virginia, Partners aspires to a national presence.  The President’s physical home base is flexible, provided he/she can travel as needed to accomplish the goals of the Foundation.
