POSITION:  Illinois State University’s School of Theatre and Dance seeks an Assistant Professor of Theatre in the areas of Theatre and Film Studies and General Education. This is a nine-month, tenure-track position.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: Candidate will teach dramatic literature, theory and criticism, dramaturgy, and theatre history to undergraduate and graduate students (M.A. and M.F.A.), as well as courses for non-majors. Candidate should have a primary focus in dramaturgy and dramatic criticism or theatre history and historiography, as demonstrated by an active research profile. A secondary interest in global theatre is a plus. Other duties include recruitment; serving on School, College, and University committees; and other duties as assigned.  The selected candidate will be expected to collaborate with colleagues in developing and achieving School goals and objectives.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Earned Ph.D. or D.F.A. in a theatre discipline is required by August 16, 2017. A minimum of one year of university-level teaching experience

 

SALARY: Competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.

 

DATE OF APPOINTMENT: August 16, 2017, or January 1, 2018

 

THE SCHOOL OF THEATRE AND DANCE: The School of Theatre and Dance is a large production-oriented program that offers BA/BS, MA/MS, and MFA degrees.  A member of the University/Resident Theatre Association and accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre, the School has approximately 30 faculty/staff and 300 undergraduate and graduate students.  Performance facilities are excellent with a proscenium theatre in the Center for the Performing Arts, a small thrust theatre, and a black-box studio theatre.  The School of Theatre and Dance is the home of the nationally recognized Illinois Shakespeare Festival, an U/RTA Equity contract theatre. 

 

THE COMMUNITY: Illinois State University is located in the growing twin cities of Bloomington and Normal, with a population of approximately 125,000 and conveniently located approximately two hours from both Chicago and St. Louis.
