POSITION DETAILS

The Director of Annual Giving functions as the leader of annual giving activities in a dynamic and complex academic setting; S/he uses industry best practices to develop, direct and lead all aspects of Annual Giving at Hunter College. S/he is the primary strategist for annual giving while managing and implementing these programs in a coordinated and effective fashion. Plans, implements and promotes stewardship programs and activities intended to maximize alumni and donor involvement and commitment to fundraising efforts for Hunter College. The Director of Annual Giving reports to the Executive Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Relations, and also works collaboratively with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement.

Annual Giving Activity Management Designs, manages, and evaluates all aspects of the annual giving activities for Hunter College. This includes print and electronic solicitations, volunteer identification and management, phoneathons, ephilanthropy, student interaction and specialized solicitations through programs, centers, and departments across the college.

Closely coordinates with the college Communications Department on strategies, messaging and branding, and tactics for communicating with both alumni and annual giving audiences. Participates in long-and-short term communication strategy planning and development.

Leads efforts to create and facilitate a vibrant culture of philanthropy and service which includes

working with high-level volunteers to determine goals, and then identify, recruit, and coach groups of volunteers, plan and coordinate meetings, determine strategies, and report on progress.

Works with key Hunter College administrators, faculty, students, and others to promote annual giving programs.

Collaborates with Executive Director to prepare annual budgets for the Hunter College Annual Giving programs and activities. Manages proper controls for planning and executing budget on a quarterly basis.

Designs and implements an aggressive and effective multichannel direct mail, ephilanthropy, Telefund and personal solicitation campaign to a highly diverse set of constituencies that maximizes unrestricted and annual giving dollars.

Personally cultivates and solicits key prospects and donors

Works proactively with other development officers and volunteer leaders to identify and evaluate prospects for leadership gifts and major gift cultivation.

Collaborates with Advancement Services in the use of data to increase prospect identification and manage donor stewardship and recognition.

Oversees donor relations for annual giving donors including acknowledgement letters and special events geared toward donor recognition and cultivation. Establishes first-time donor and consecutive donor protocols.

Cultivates and maintains effective relationships and ensures appropriate communication strategies with internal and external partners in alumni relations, development and communications.

Leads, coaches and evaluates performance of direct reports.

Supports a culture where effective teamwork, collaboration, and innovation are expected and recognized. Leads by example with regards to appropriate risk-taking, cross-organizational cooperation and clear standards of conduct.

Serves as a resource and counsel to staff, offering new approaches and techniques; encourages creative solutions in a dynamic and complex environment.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required.

Other Qualifications:

Demonstration of tact, discretion, and good judgment in handling sensitive and confidential information

Advanced analytical, and project management skills.

Excellent written and oral communications skills.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Experience with using and maintaining database information, Raiser’s Edge preferred.

Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks and projects in a dynamic, deadline oriented environment, working with multiple team members simultaneously.
