Overview:
The Griffith School of Engineering has been providing tertiary
qualifications to the Engineering profession for over two decades
and is known for its innovative and student focussed teaching
approaches and its strong industry relationships. There has been a
rapid growth in student numbers since 2007 and we now teach over
2000 students at both undergraduate and postgraduate programs
across multiple campuses in several disciplines, including Civil,
Mechanical, Electrical and Electronic, Environmental Engineering
and Industrial Design.
Industrial Design is a new undergraduate program at Griffith
University offered jointly by the Griffith School of Engineering
and Queensland College of Art. The program intentionally introduces
more engineering than is traditional in an Industrial design degree
to broaden the scope of its graduates.
This is a continuing, full time position primarily based at the
Gold Coast campus, however the successful applicant may also be
required to work on other campuses of the University.
The role:
The position is required to teach design supported by engineering
fundamentals including maths, mechanics and thermofluids, in a
design context as a solid foundation for students to study these
subjects in later years. The position is also required to assist in
teaching design courses (e.g. creative engineering), and contribute
to the School's teaching and research outcomes including
publications and research success, teaching excellence and higher
degree research supervision and completions, and engagement
activities.
The person:
The successful candidate will have relevant teaching, research and
professional links in Industrial or Engineering Design to
strengthen Discipline's teaching and research capability in this
area. You must have a PhD in Industrial or Engineering Design or a
related field and will need to demonstrate the ability to undertake
high-quality research of national and international standing. The
successful appointee will be able to demonstrate the ability to
gain external research funding and to supervise higher degree
students.
The ideal incumbent would be an Industrial Designer who has a depth
of engineering knowledge or an Engineering Designer with proven
creativity skills in industrial or product design.
It is expected that the successful appointee is available to
commence before the end of year 2017.
Salary range:
Senior Lecturer, Level C: $111,104 - $128,113 per
