Dean College invites strong visionaries and experienced change agents to apply for the position of Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. We seek a progressive, dynamic, inspiring, and pedagogical leader with experience building and sustaining a top notch educational environment. The candidate will provide experienced academic leadership to maintain strong programs at both the Associate and Baccalaureate levels and work collaboratively to shape the strategic direction for the School and its component disciplines.

This position offers the right candidate a unique opportunity to be a differentiator at a School primed for success. The Dean is responsible for providing vision, leadership, and oversight of all aspects of the School.

 

Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean is responsible for providing leadership, management, and oversight of all aspects of the School. The Dean represents the School within the College, and at state, regional and national levels. Core responsibilities include but are not limited to: developing and executing operational plans; program planning and development, with a focus on expanding the regional and national visibility of the programs in order to grow enrollment; collaboration with the Office of Admissions on marketing degree programs in the School; curriculum development, including coordinating course offerings each semester; hiring, training, and supervision of full and part-time faculty, as well as adjunct faculty; internal program reviews; student learning outcomes assessment; supervising the program coordinators for the school; focusing on technology use in the classroom; and budget oversight. The Dean will work on behalf of the students, aligning teaching with the diverse learning needs of the Dean student. The Dean also teaches one or more courses per semester.

 

Required Skills and Experience

Candidate must hold an earned terminal degree in one of the disciplines of the School; qualify for appointment at the full Professor rank; have a minimum of five years of progressively responsible academic administrative experience at the level of associate dean or higher; and demonstrated a capacity to provide professional development and support faculty in teaching and learning. The preferred candidate must have a demonstrated passion for teaching and for providing transformational learning experiences for college students. The Candidate should be an innovative leader with the ability, energy, and intellectual charisma to lead the School of LAS. The preferred candidate must have extensive experience designing and managing academic programs for exploratory/undecided students and be familiar with the necessary recruitment and retention initiatives needed to maintain and increase student enrollment and retention. Extensive experience with technology use in the classroom, and classroom technology management programming is essential. A sense of humor is vital.
