Communication Specialist - UVU Bookstore/ Student Life

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Summary:
Work at a place with great people, that have a great passion and purpose to promote student success. As a marketing specialist, this position will facilitate student success by creating strategies that market opportunities, events, and resources that elevate the quality of student life, including student wellness, intramural and recreational programs. In addition, the communication specialist will develop retail marketing and communication strategies that drive profitability for UVU's bookstore. This is an embedded position within the University's Central Marketing and Communications office dedicated/assigned to the UVU Bookstore and Student Life enterprises.
In this role, the individual will:
  • Generates both marketing and editorial/journalistic written content for a variety of platforms (including but not limited to brochures, magazines, newsletters, news articles and releases, advertisements, video scripts, websites, social media) and to a variety of constituents within Bookstore/ Student Life and the university community.
  • Plans, creates, executes, and measures effectiveness of marketing and recruitment plans and accompanying collateral. Investigates and develops student and faculty success stories for use in internal and external marketing material. Manages and implements an on and off-line lead generation recruitment program.
  • Directs and implements SEO and website management systems. Coordinates with vendors to develop and execute digital advertising and monitors and optimize using the resulting analytics. In collaboration with University Marketing, manages integrated marketing strategies and tactics.


Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree, plus one year of marketing/design experience OR a combination of relevant education and experience totaling five years.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of marketing and communications best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of and well versed in online and offline retail promotion.
  • Basic knowledge of graphic design principles and applications including the Adobe Suite.
  • Knowledge of lead generation, SEO, data analysis as well as online and print advertising best practices.
  • Knowledge of core retail metrics including.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best social media practices and digital marketing best practices and platforms.
  • Experience in organizing promotional store-line and sales-drive events across diverse product lines and audience segments.
  • Experience in building out CRM initiatives to build-out customer loyalty strategies.
  • Experience identifying market and brand awareness weaknesses/deficiencies.
  • Experience crafting integrated promotional strategies to drive brick-and-mortar and e-commerce retail sales.
  • Experience and track record of managing and optimizing campaigns to meet campaign targets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated and versatile writing and editing skills.
  • Excellent organization and time-management skills.
  • Skills developing and managing budgets.
  • Skills creating retail analysis reports.
  • Skills and experience in on- and off-line lead generation best practices.
  • Demonstrated skills in search engine optimization and website management and CRM system implementation.
  • Skills utilizing online and offline analytic tools.
  • Ability to think strategically.
  • Ability to analyze data and trends in order to make decisions.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure.
  • Ability to build rapport and lead collaborative projects.
  • Ability to be a self-starter.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist in the design and layout of collateral materials.
  • Ability to collaborate, build rapport, and work in a team environment.
  • Ability to analyze marketing data and digital analytics.


Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and two (2) to four (4) years of related experience in Communications, Marketing or a closely related field

Physical Requirements:
General working hours M-F 8 am - 5 pm.
Some nights and weekends possible.
Occasionally will need to attend special events.
Be on-call for crisis communication situations.
