The Assistant Dean provides academic and personal advising to undergraduate William Smith students and assists in the ongoing programming of the office.

Responsibilities:

  • Support, coordinate and manage the academic experience of William Smith students.
  • Provide assistance to the Dean of the College on strategic planning of events and programming.
  • Facilitate the developmental experience of female-identified students at the Colleges.
  • Advise William Smith students on academic issues.
  • Monitor, support and communicate regularly with William Smith students who are on academic probation while working closely with the faculty of the Colleges.
  • Represent William Smith College on administrative committees as assigned by the Dean of the College.
  • Attend and support William Smith students at campus events (often outside of the normal work day).
  • Represent William Smith College at college events including Academic and Admissions programming throughout the year.
  • Collaborate with other student-centered campus offices, including the Hobart Dean's Office for male students, Residential Education, Admissions, and Title IX.
  • Serve as a member of the "on-call" rotational staff for managing student concerns outside of normal working hours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of William Smith College.

  Qualifications:
  • A Master's degree is required; a Ph.D. is preferred.
  • Experience working with students and families in a higher education setting.
  • Discretion, sound judgment, and strong interpersonal skills in dealing with students, faculty, administrators, parents, handling confidential information, and communicating with all campus constituencies.
  • Practical leadership experience and demonstrated ability to influence others.
  • Dedication and commitment to liberal arts education.
  • An understanding of best practices for managing academic and personal issues confronting women students.
  • Superior attention to detail, problem-solving skills, organizational skills, and electronic, verbal, and written communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of diversity and the ability to interact with a diverse population.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with administrators, alumnae, faculty, students and parents.
  • Proficiency in MS Office programs.
