As a part of a growing Center for Career Exploration and Success (CCES) team dedicated to expanding Miami’s Career Community, the Assistant/Senior Assistant Director for Diversity Initiatives will support, expand, and advocate for the career exploration and professional development needs of a growing diverse and underserved student population (e.g. students of color, international, LGBTQ+, first generation, low-SES and more) across all academic divisions and majors, in coordination with the Center’s divisional liaison staff, through targeted and proactive programming, career coaching, and connecting students with employers, including internships, shadowing experiences, and other early engagement opportunities. This new position will be expected to create partnerships and programs internally and externally to Miami through the identification of the unique professional and career development needs of the targeted populations, and then assess the impact of offerings in collaboration with the Associate Director and the staff within the CCES. In addition, the Assistant/Senior Assistant Director will serve as a liaison with partner faculty and staff, establish and maintain relationships with employers, and execute diversity and inclusion training for CCES staff.

 

Duties/Physical Demands:

In collaboration with the Associate Director for Student Populations:

  1. Support the career exploration and professional development needs of underserved student populations (e.g. students of color, international, LGBTQ+, first generation, low-SES and more) . (30%)
  • Create and implement programs and services which are geared towards retention, progression, and post-graduate success;
  • Provide supplemental career advising to students upon request and in collaboration with the career advising team dedicated to the academic divisions
  • Foster collaboration and communication with targeted student groups and organizations based upon unique needs.
  • Provide consultation to employers and other career partners with a desire to expand and connect diverse talent pipelines in collaboration with the employer relation’s team and other CCES staff. (20%)
    • Create and deliver programs and initiatives including but not limited to networking events, professional development services, and career trips;
    • Serve as a bridge between employers and students.
  • Serve as a liaison and collaborate with faculty and staff who directly work with diverse student populations. (15%)
  • Analyze and collect, as needed, university and CCES data to assist in strategies and programs and the associated outcomes of diverse student populations. Consistently leverage data, survey results, and trend information to guide decision-making. (15%)
  • Assist in the strategic development and implementation of CCES staff training. Ensure that all are trained to support the career development needs of the identified underserved student populations. (10%)
  • Other duties as assigned (10%)
  • Minimum Qualifications:

    • Master’s Degree and minimum of 2 years of related experience (or 4 years for Senior Assistant Director)
    • Proven ability and commitment to work with diverse populations (e.g. students of color, international, LGBTQ+, first generation, low-SES and more) and to build partnerships with University community and outside partners.
