Norfolk State University's School of Education invites applicants for a tenure track, twelve month position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor for Fall, 2017.

 

The successful candidate will:

 

  1. Assist with coordinating and directing the undergraduate Kinesiotherapy/Exercise Science programs.
  2. Teach classes and advise students within the undergraduate Kinesiotherapy program, the Exercise Science program, and the Health and Physical, Education program.
  3. Assist with clinical supervision of Exercise Science/Kinesiotherapy majors as needed.
  4. Assist with updating and developing Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), certification reports for the accrediting bodies of the American Kinesiotherapy Association (AKTA) and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).
  5. Teach in the following disciplines: Exercise Physiology, Research Methods in Kinesiological research, Health and Wellness, Measurement and Evaluation, and Biomechanics.
  6. Serve on Departmental, School and University committees, provide department representation during recruitment and university-wide academic advising events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Terminal degree in Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Human Movement Sciences, or Rehabilitative Sciences.
  2. Possess considerable knowledge and clinical experience in rehabilitative sciences setting as a Kinesiotherapist, physical therapist, athletic training, and/or exercise physiologist.
  3. Demonstrated ability to apply for and secure external source funding via grants and other contracts.
  4. Demonstrated skills using a variety of instructional technology and computer software related to analysis of human movement and rehabilitative exercise.
  5. Possess clinical experience in the field of Exercise Science and/or Kinesiotherapy.
  6. Demonstrated ability to communicate to a diverse student body audience, verbally and in writing, with emphasis applied to a commitment to diversity.
  7. Demonstrated ability to develop, manage, and evaluate both short-term and long-term rehabilitative exercise programs for people transitioning out of hospital based treatment and into rehabilitative programs.
  8. Provide record of published research in the field of Kinesiology, rehabilitative, and/or human movement sciences.
  9. Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence.
  10. Ability to engage in scholarly activity.
  11. Demonstrated ability to serve on department, school and university committees.
  12. Demonstrated ability to advise, mentor and tutor students.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1.  Certification and/or registration as a Kinesiotherapist (RKT) through the American Kinesiotherapy Association (AKTA) with clinical experience at the Veteran's Administration (VA).
  2. Preparation and expertise in a similar rehabilitation setting and able to sit for the Kinesiotherapy (KT).
  3. Knowledge of CAAHEP accreditation standards and procedures.
