Position Summary:

Utah State University's Merrill-Cazier Library seeks a forward-thinking, proactive Associate Dean to lead the division encompassing instruction services, collection management, and patron services. The primary responsibilities of the position are to provide leadership within the division as well as the broader University Libraries' and the campus' strategic plans and goals. The incumbent will report to the Dean of Libraries and directly supervise three unit heads: Patron Services, Collections Management & Resource Sharing, and Learning & Engagement Services. The Associate Dean will be a member of the Libraries' Executive Council, the senior leadership, policy and management team.

Preferred start date: Beginning of 2018 (negotiable)


Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and personnel support for the Division
  • Actively participate on the Libraries' leadership team, participating in planning, assessment, budgeting, and Library-wide decision-making
  • Develop partnerships with academic councils and student services across the University to further student success and promote faculty engagement and research services
  • Provide supervisory and managerial support to unit heads
  • Create and promote programs to support the mentorship and development of faculty and staff
  • Review candidates for promotion and tenure and manage the promotion and tenure process for faculty within the division
  • Represent the Library on University committees and advocate for library initiatives as they relate to broader campus initiatives
  • Participate in state, regional, and/or national professional associations
  • Continue to engage in librarianship and continue to develop a record of scholarship

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • Five years of management and supervisory experience
  • Masters of Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program
  • Understanding of current trends in higher education, scholarship, and research libraries
  • Demonstrated campus-wide advocacy and service on campus-wide committees
  • Patron-centered focus
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience working with diverse staff, creating solutions and solving problems as they arise
  • Demonstrated collaboration skills with increasing leadership responsibilities
  • A record of scholarship and professional achievement appropriate for appointment as the Associate or Full Librarian with tenure

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Budget experience
  • Experience developing and implementing a strategic plan or developing a library vision
  • Experience with mentoring or staff development
  • Demonstrated interest, experience or ability to build inclusiveness
  • Experience managing across all levels of an organization

Opportunity Type: Full-Time w/benefits package

Advertised Salary: Minimum $90,000 depending on experience, plus excellent benefits
