Assistant Professor Criminal Justice

Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a nine-month, tenure track Assistant Professor Criminal Justice faculty position in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice.

Position Responsibilities:

The Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice at Kennesaw State University is accepting applications for a 9-month tenure-track assistant professor in Criminal Justice, to begin August 1, 2018. The teaching load is 3 courses per semester, including graduate and undergraduate courses. Courses may be taught on the Kennesaw or Marietta campus and are offered during daytime and evening hours. Faculty in the department teach in a variety of modalities, including face-to-face, hybrid, and online. Faculty are expected to maintain active research agendas as well as to meet service expectations of the department, college, and university. Commitment to excellence in teaching, complemented by strong scholarship and engagement, is expected of all faculty members in KSU’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in the Criminal Justice core, including policing, courts, and/or corrections, as well as research methods and senior seminar. Preference will be given to candidates with research expertise in the area of policing.

Required Education, qualifications, and experience:

An earned Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or closely related field, an equivalent terminal degree in a closely related field, or the foreign equivalent, from a regionally-accredited institution by the contract start date. Applicants with the training, ability, and/or experience equivalent to the minimum degree may be considered. An outstanding A.B.D. may be considered if the candidate can provide evidence of experience in teaching at the university level and evidence of anticipated degree completion by the contract start date.

The Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice has 30 full-time faculty, over 20 part-time faculty, and nearly 1,200 majors. The department offers Bachelor’s degrees in Criminal Justice and Sociology, an accelerated Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice. The department also offers minors in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Gerontology, and Sociology.
