Clark College is currently accepting applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track, Automotive Instructor. Primary teaching responsibilities include preparing students for success as a dealership technician through management of the internships.  Primary duties include developing and managing relations between Dealership Service Manager, Mentoring Technician and Student; assisting in the development and monitoring of students’ goals; ensure success of students both professionally and technically; and ensure student completion of Factory and Industry Certifications (ASE).  This position will be responsible for all students in our Dealer Ready programs (Toyota T-TEN, Honda PACT, Audi AEP, and Dick Hannah’s HiTECC).  Additional teaching assignments may be available.  Department and college service work is expected with the position (as assigned by the division or college) to support the institutional mission and goals, foremost being student success and retention. General Faculty Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, local industry, advisory committees, and other educational partners to create unique and sustainable learning opportunities at Clark College.
  • Advise and assist students in educational and career development to attain a two-year degree, certificate or transfer to a four-year college.
  • Experience using computer applications, information systems, and the Internet.
  • An understanding of and commitment to the educational role, mission, and philosophy of the community college.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with curriculum and teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse student populations.
  • Willingness to take a leadership role in areas of educational and professional expertise.
  • Participate in decision-making processes by taking part in Department and College committees.
  • Pursue professional development that strives to enhance teaching and learning in the department and College.
  • Work to enhance and support all forms of diversity on a college campus.
  • Participate in course and program level assessment activities.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • A.S degree in Automotive Technology or equivalent.
  • Six years of recent automotive repair technician experience preferred.
    • Other shop positions are acceptable with a strong understanding of technician workflow.
  • This position requires flexible hours, and the ability to travel regularly throughout the region is required, including minimal overnight travel.
  • Effectively coordinate activities, services, and schedules to ensure smooth and efficient operation of work with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively with Clark faculty, staff, and Dealership personnel to handle and resolve student concerns in accordance with College policy, FERPA regulations and dealership standards.
  • Participate in NATEF and other industry partner program certification processes.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Professional-Technical Certification requirements:
  1. Teaching personnel in professional-technical fields for which bachelor’s or master’s degrees are not commonly available shall possess sufficient broad and comprehensive training, industry-recognized certification when available, and two years of relevant work experience or relevant and current teaching experience.
  2. Certification is a condition of continued employment for all professional-technical education personnel.
  • Ability to work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mobile refrigerant certified.
  • ASE Certified in all eight automotive areas. Required for additional teaching assignments.
  • ASE L-1 Certified
  • Ability to obtain ASE G1 Certification
  • Recent diagnostic technician experience.
  • Recent college-level teaching experience.
  • Recent experience managing personnel.
  • Experience using a variety of teaching and assessment techniques - including the use of technology - that enhance student success.
  • Willingness to participate in a variety of departmental and campus activities.
