COMPENSATION:
Initial salary placement ranges from $51,711 to $80,979, based upon education and experience. The current faculty salary schedule includes five classes and twenty steps with a maximum annual salary of $108,490. A District-paid comprehensive benefit package which includes medical, dental and vision insurances for the employee and dependents, and a $50,000 employee life insurance policy are provided. Representative Duties:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Instruct students in pre-college through freshman and sophomore levels of composition and literature courses.
Implement relevant theories and methods in teaching of composition, reading, critical thinking and literature. This assignment may include computer assisted instruction and distance education.
Teach in accordance with departmental course outlines and design instructional activities to promote student success.
Collaborate with colleagues in program and curriculum development and participate in other departmental meetings and projects.
Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned.
Serve on academic senate and shared governance committees as necessary to support and enrich instructional programs.
Promote the success of a diverse student population through careful preparation of course materials and effective teaching method.
Comply with district policies and procedures in the performance of all duties by timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities including holding weekly office hours and being available to assist students as required.
Participate in assessment, evaluation, and planning of Student Learning Outcomes and Program Learning Outcomes.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's in English, literature, comparative literature, or
composition OR Bachelor's in any of the above
AND Master's in linguistics, TESL, speech,
education with a specialization in reading, creative writing, or
journalism OR the equivalent.
Desired qualifications may include but are not limited
to:
- Composition theory
- Distance education
- Developmental writing theory and practice
Must have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse
academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic
backgrounds of community college students.
