GENERAL SUMMARY: This position serves as the Dean for the School of
Architecture & Construction Management at NewSchool of
Architecture + Design. The Dean reports to the Chief Academic
Officer and is a member of the academic leadership team, leading
and contributing to college wide initiatives. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES: Leadership
Provides overall leadership and creates an environment of
excellence for the School of Architecture & Construction
Management.
Leads the planning, development, management, and assessment of
the School of Architecture & Construction Management's faculty,
student, and academic programs.
Leads outcome assessment resulting in improvement initiatives
for the School of Architecture & Construction Management that
are consistent with the overall assessment initiatives for the
University.
Integrates NewSchool's mission and values within the School of
Architecture & Construction Management, and works with faculty,
staff, and other academic leaders to assure the academic quality
and integrity of the degree programs.
Develops all new programs and specializations for the School of
Architecture & Construction Management including: Gaining the
necessary approvals, approving resulting articulation agreements,
supporting accreditation and program approval, and approving all
new master syllabi.
Collaborates with faculty members, committees, and staff to
effectively drive policies, technology, and improvement
initiatives.
Advances the organizational culture of NewSchool that is based
on student-centeredness, accountability, and collaboration.
Fosters a culture of evidence and promotes a variety of
research and assessment activities designed to document the
academic quality of its programs.
Participates in strategic planning and development of key
internal and external University resources and relationships.
Ensures the operations and performance of the School of
Architecture & Construction Management comply with the
standards of National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) and
Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
Management:
Manages the School of Architecture & Construction
Management, including direct responsibility for its budget,
faculty, and academic programs.
Successfully drives the intermediate and long-range goals and
plans of the School of Architecture & Construction Management
and leads the school in growth efforts aimed at recruiting,
advancing, and maintaining a diverse learning community of faculty,
staff, and students.
Supervises the development and application of policies and
procedures, including rewards and recognitions, that are consistent
with the University's policies.
Supports marketing initiatives to foster the growth of the
School of Architecture & Construction Management and resulting
programs.
Administers the budget for the School of Architecture &
Construction Management and ensures necessary resources are
available.
Reviews and approves contracts and assignments for the School
of Architecture & Construction Management including: Making
final hiring decision on faculty, approving faculty and special
payments, approving assignment letters, and making faculty
assignments.
Completes performance evaluations for Architecture &
Construction Management program chairs and faculty.
External Relations:
Develops appropriate partnerships consistent with the
University's mission.
Prepares appropriate documentation for accrediting and other
agencies.
Teaches a seminar or lecture course(s) annually in Architecture
or Construction Management connecting personal scholarship or
professional practice with the pillars of the NewSchool curriculum
to include Professional Practice, Sustainability, International
Reach, and Community Engagement.
TECHNICAL, MANAGERIAL, and PEOPLE SKILLS REQUIRED To perform this
job successfully an individual must be able to perform each

Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills at the minimum
level of academic dean
Collaborative leadership style and superior interpersonal
skills that include an ability to mediate difficult situations
among various university constituents.
Excellent skills in technology, communication, and
problem-solving.
Comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated understanding of
academic program development, implementation, and assessment.
Experience in the development, delivery, and assessment of on
ground and online instruction.
Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning
excellence.
Ability to foster teamwork in a collaborative environment to
reach consensus needed to bring about change and innovation.
Understanding of contemporary trends, issues, and challenges in
higher education
Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Master's degree required in Architecture or Construction
Management
Professional licensure strongly preferred
Significant and demonstrated experience in a position of
academic leadership.
A minimum of 15 years related experience in higher education
and a track record of success and experience as a faculty
member.
Familiarity with the design profession through practice or
focused scholarship.
Distinguished record of research, creative work, and/or
significant professional activity.
LICENSURE and/or CERTIFICATION Professional licensure strongly
preferred
