The Division of Student Life provides and promotes exceptional and transformative experiences that prepare students to be healthy, successful, inspired global citizens.  Within collaborative and inclusive communities that embody the values of diversity, innovation, and social justice, we actively facilitate experiential learning and engage students in meaningful and deliberate activities, programs, and services. The Division is comprised of the following departments: Career Center, Office of the Dean of Students, Erb Memorial Union, Holden Center for Leadership and Community Engagement, and the Department of Physical Education and Recreation.

 

The Assistant Dean of Students provides leadership, vision, and support to personnel in the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards; contributes significantly to department strategic planning and goal achievement, professional staff supervision, budget development, management and oversight, assessment efforts, and overall sustainability of student conduct services; anticipates challenges and opportunities for the department and implements best practices as a member of the Dean of Students Leadership team, participating in decisions affecting the programs under their direct supervision as well as the organization unit as a whole; serves on various department, division, and university committees; work with campus partners including students, faculty, staff, alumnae and community members to create and implement national models of excellence for student conduct and community standards.

 

The Assistant Dean will also develop and convene the Bias Education Response team in a collaborative manner with colleagues across divisions. They will facilitate campus planning for educational manners for students regarding bias incidents and coordinate outreach efforts to students impacted by incidents of bias. This position plays a critical role in developing innovative and student-centered programs that inspire and engage students, and enrich the overall campus community and climate.

 

This position also coordinates operations for the Dean of Students Office supervising HR, assist the Dean in setting office policies, serve as a member of the on-call crisis response team, and coordinate University Honors and Awards granted through the Dean of Students Office. The Assistant Dean will also coordinate assessment efforts for all units within the Dean of Students portfolio.
