The University of New Haven is seeking an entrepreneurial, creative and collaborative individual to lead and develop an expanding program of activities in international education. As the Executive Director of International Education, this individual is the chief advocate at our main campus in West Haven for enhancing current and promoting emerging study abroad opportunities available to our students through our Tuscany Campus and our faculty lead study abroad programs. Also, the Executive Director will serve as a resource to units exploring new opportunities related to international education. In addition, the Executive Director will play a key role in managing partnerships with organizations such as CEA Study Abroad and with other institutions involved in international education opportunities for our students. Reporting to the Associate Provost for Strategic Initiatives and Faculty Development the Executive Director will have the following key duties:

Key Duties

  • Supporting, Guiding and Coaching our Faculty - Inspire our faculty to consider ways study abroad activities might support and enhance the University's existing curriculum and programs. The Executive Director will serve as a resource and coach to faculty who need guidance bringing their ideas for study abroad courses to life.
  • Collaborating with our Academic Department Chairs - Help our department chairs design study abroad opportunities that align with department or college goals. Partner with chairs to ensure that students from their programs are advised properly in regard to enrolling in study abroad courses.
  • Recruiting Students to Study in Tuscany - Develop and implement creative outreach programs to help ensure students are aware of offerings and programs at the Tuscany Campus that fit with their academic goals. Work with senior administration to set enrollment targets and to develop plans for achieving the targets. Ensure that processes are in place for selecting students and tracking students who choose to study in Prato. Facilitate orientation programs for students who enroll to study in Tuscany.
  • Serving as the Liaison Between the Tuscany Campus and Main Campus Units - Work in close collaboration with the Tuscany Campus Dean to plan for upcoming cohorts of students. Help coordinate communication and collaboration between the Tuscany campus and main campus.
  • Ensuring Study Abroad Opportunities meet established Risk, Fiscal, Academic and Legal Standards - Get input from relevant units on campus to assess risks and costs of proposed Study Abroad programs. Work with the Associate Provosts to ensure Study Abroad programs meet established academic standards. Ensure student travel documents meet the required standards and are reviewed by the appropriate officials promptly.
  • Managing the Office of Study Abroad - Oversee and develop a staff comprised of the Director of Faculty Lead Study Abroad, student workers, and an administrative coordinator (shared with other offices) in a way that helps them meet the needs of multiple stakeholders in a professional and timely manner.
  • Coordinating Partnership Agreements - Assist the Office of Associate Provosts in the management of School of Record Agreement with CEA. Assist other units as needed in the management and promotion of international student exchange programs. Teaching experience in higher education is highly desirable. Support other potential partnerships with organizations that offer programs for our students related to international education.
  • Advocating for the Value of Study Abroad - Coordinate/Facilitate sessions on campus to help students and faculty understand the many benefits of study abroad experiences. Promote outcomes and achievements related to our Study Abroad programs by working with our Marketing team and other relevant units.
  • Leading Continuous Improvement - Ensure our study abroad programs are assessed and that assessment outcomes are incorporated into programs so that they maintain high quality standards and remain attractive to stakeholders.


Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have management experience in international education within higher education or an international organization. The candidate will have in-depth knowledge of study abroad programming in higher education and the ability to see the University's strategic possibilities beyond its current study abroad offerings. A Master's degree is required; a Ph.D. would be preferred. Also, the ideal candidate should have extensive experience with international travel and have evidence of an established professional network in areas related to international education.
