Under the general supervision of the Vice President (VP) for Facilities Management and Development, the Associate Vice President, Planning & Development will be responsible for directing the Division’s facilities planning, design and construction. The AVP will provide leadership to the institutional processes associated with the planning, funding, design, construction, and leasing of an expanding portfolio of Downstate Medical Center including Hospital and Clinics facilities. The AVP will be responsible for the overall administration of the campus and hospital property and land assets, facilities strategic planning, capital planning, space management, design and construction, and capital construction project management. The AVP will also direct aspects of facilities long-term planning, and capital fiscal management; work cooperatively and collaboratively with other campus offices and departments, key campus and hospital administration, faculty, and staff and act as the liaison for DMC with local and state regulatory agencies for approval and permitting as it relates to facilities. Additional responsibilities will include providing leadership and supervision to management and represented employees, managing activities for planning, space management, design and construction and overall monitoring and success of assigned facilities functions and for integrating these activities with those of other major operational segments of the Campus; providing oversight for selected, high profile maintenance, repair and renovation jobs and projects, monitoring those jobs and projects for compliance, costs and quality control and developing and implementing systems, procedures, processes, and new approaches that continually promote, foster and assure quality improvement and exhibit a clear customer service commitment.

Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, Engineering, Construction Management, Business Management or a closely related field. A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible management experience involving the capital development, design and construction, and operations/ maintenance of facilities and infrastructure of a college medical center.
