The State University System of Florida is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Vice Chancellor within the Office of Academic and Student Affairs. The position is located at the Board of Governors office in Tallahassee and reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs.

Responsibilities, duties, and activities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides leadership and direction with regard to academic and student affairs policies and programs; strategic planning, research, and analysis; and special projects, such as performance-based funding— all in support of the Board of Governors’ constitutional responsibilities.
  • Serves as a member of the leadership team in the Academic and Student Affairs unit.
  • Leads or participates in short- and long-term special projects in support of the system's 2025 Strategic Plan.
  • Provides expertise in policy research and studies, including research design and data analysis.
  • Derives implications and conclusions from data and information and writes research and policy reports that communicate well to a variety of audiences.
  • Works collaboratively with Board staff in the Budget and Finance unit on joint projects such as performance-based funding and legislative budget requests.
  • Provides leadership to staff and/or higher education work groups on specific assignments.
  • Under the direction of the Vice Chancellor and Chancellor, may serve as an official representative to external groups at federal and state levels, civic and professional organizations, and other groups. May deliver presentations and participate in meetings of the Board of Governors, legislative committees and staff meetings, conferences, and high level meetings such as Blue Ribbon committees appointed by the Governor or Legislature.
  • May supervise staff individually or in teams to conduct research, develop policies, and carry out other assignments.
  • Conducts timely analyses on legislative bills affecting the State University System.

Education/Experience: Educational requirements are a Ph.D. (or other terminal degree) with 4 years of significant higher education experience in teaching at the undergraduate or graduate levels, in conducting research, or in academic affairs administration at a university or in significant academic affairs experience at a system or state office or a master’s degree and 6 years of such experience. References are required. Applicants must have the ability to work with changing and multiple priorities and demonstrate initiative and creative problem solving.  Experience in curriculum design, university organization and governance, and program planning and analysis at the campus level is highly desirable. Demonstration of increasing levels of responsibility also highly desired.  Experience with SAS or other statistical software is preferred but not required.

Estimated Salary: The anticipated hiring range is $100,000 - $117,000 per year.  Salary will be commensurate with experience and highest degree attained.
