The Office of Housing and Residence Life (HRL), within the Division of Student Affairs, provides housing for 2,700 residents and offers students more than just a place to live. Reporting directly to the Associate Dean of Students/Director for Housing and Residence Life, the Senior Associate Director for Housing and Residence Life oversees and is responsible for the day-to-day supervision, management and operations of all Facility Management, Housing Operations and Residence Life. The Senior Associate Director responsibilities also include supervision of over 150 professional and paraprofessional staff, financial management of operational expenses of approximately $21 million, creating and maintaining external relationships and major project development. The successful candidate will assist the Director of Housing and Residence Life in providing overall management of the administration of housing and residence life operations. Areas of responsibility and operational management include fiscal oversight, program development and assessment, student residential learning, student development, interpretation and enforcement of housing contract policies, publications, facility maintenance, assignments, marketing and leasing development and implementation, rent collection, delinquency oversight and office management. Represent housing and/or residence life on various standing, ad hoc, advisory and search committees; act on behalf of the Director in his/her absence.

Review process and policy enhancement recommendations from staff, assess and determine impact and necessity, determine necessary resources and develop implementation plan accordingly. Budget oversight for revenue and related expense areas. Develop outreach activities to expand collaboration with other campus units and local businesses to identify new revenue opportunities, relationships or services that can benefit campus housing residents. Works collaboratively with IUPUI Enrollment Services, IUPUI Food Services, Division of Student Life Communications and Development area, IUPUI academic units and IUPUI Parking and Transportation Services.

 

Job Requirements

Supervise, evaluate and provide operational management for the associate director for housing facilities and building operations, associate director for housing operations, assistant director for residence life, and assistant director for academic initiatives. Assist direct reports in their supervision of assistant director for housing maintenance, assistant director for building services, assistant director for housing data systems, and assistant director for conference services and guest housing. Oversee the process for recruitment, selection, hiring, training, development, evaluation, corrective action, and retention of HRL staff.

Responsible for managing the operations of the HRL department including supervision of associate director staff, assistant director staff, financial management of operational expenses, continued development and growth of conference revenue, creating and maintaining external relationships and major programmatic and facility capital improvement project development. Responsible for the management of the self-operated housing facilities management program while insuring residents are provided with a meaningful educational, personal, recreational, and social experience. Work on project teams and provide leadership for new housing construction and/or conversion of buildings to housing facilities.

Oversee the implementation of HRL policy enforcement, department wide judicial/educational discipline programs and implementation of the judicial process. Serve as a member of university hearing commissions and as a university hearing officer through the office of student conduct.

Act on behalf of the Director of Housing and Residence Life in his absence and as directed. Plan and direct projects as requested by the Director of Housing and Residence Life.

Prepare reports regarding all HRL operations, occupancy, facilities, academic initiatives, judicial incidents and activities for the Director of Housing and Residence Life and campus community. Create presentations featuring HRL’s best practices and present on campus and at regional and national conferences.

Oversee the annual operating budget and develop a financial plan for facility and housing operations, residence life and academic initiatives. Additionally, work with associate director of housing operations to develop occupancy plan with goal of maintaining maximum occupancy through development and use of supplemental housing opportunities.

Oversee and manage the implementation and review of all housing programs and activities, RBLCs, academic initiatives, capital planning, occupancy, and facilities. Through assessment and research, make program changes based off of data from housing satisfaction surveys and other resident feedback mechanisms.

Attend and participate in campus-wide meetings and committees as they relate to Housing and Residence Life and participate in the formation and evaluation of the strategic plan, mission and goals of the Office of Housing and Residence Life. Present HRL marketing sessions to prospective students, parents, university constituents, external partners, and orientation attendees.
