The Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and Discourse (WRD) invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-line Term Faculty position to begin September, 2017, primarily in first-year writing. Expertise and teaching experience in one or more of the following fields will significantly enhance an application: second-language writing theory/instruction; diverse rhetorical practices and non-dominant literacies; or professional writing, technical writing, business writing and/or science writing. At DePaul, Term Faculty members are hired on one-year contracts with full benefits. Contingent upon annual performance review and enrollment needs, they are eligible for reappointment and possible multiyear contracts. Term Faculty in WRD teach three courses per term (a nine-course load on the quarter system), contribute teaching-related service to an active and dynamic independent writing department, and have the right to vote in matters of governance. The successful candidate will demonstrate a clear commitment to and success in teaching undergraduates; experience teaching writing to students of varied cultural and linguistic backgrounds; and sensitivity to the educational goals of a diverse student population. Opportunities are available, depending on preparation and experience, to teach in an innovative liberal studies program and other areas, including our graduate program in WRD. PhD or MA in rhetoric and composition or an equivalent field required. Please electronically submit a letter of application, CV, and three current references.
