Helena College University of Montana seeks an innovative and inspirational leader for the top campus executive position at this comprehensive two-year college. The Dean/CEO is the chief executive officer of Helena College which is independently accredited by the Northwest Commission on Community Colleges and Universities, as well as being part of the Montana University System governed by the Montana State Board of Regents. Helena College is independently accredited, although it is affiliated with the University of Montana. Helena College is located in the state’s vibrant capital city near the headwaters of the Missouri River in the heart of the Northern Rocky Mountains. The College is composed of two campuses and it offers 34 associate degrees and certificates in general education/transfer, technical, and trades programs of study. The College’s comprehensive mission is to provide well-rounded programs in Career and Technical Education (CTE), as well as academic transfer, a variety of credit and non-credit continuing education courses, workforce training, and personal enrichment. Helena College serves a large geographic area including the counties of Lewis & Clark, Jefferson and Broadwater counties and has an annual unduplicated enrollment of over 1,800 students. The College has established partnerships with many local industries such as aerospace manufacturing, healthcare, IT, and many others. Helena College has grown dynamically during the past decade experiencing a 57% increase in fall headcount between 2006 and 2016.

Position Profile

The Dean/CEO is appointed by the Montana Board of Regents and reports to the President of the University of Montana. The Dean/CEO will lead further development and progress of a shared innovative vision for the College, inspiring College stakeholders to pursue and fulfill goals for student and community success. The successful candidate must have a full understanding of education, including two-year and community college education, secondary education, and workforce development. The Dean/CEO must have effective leadership and interpersonal skills to maintain a successful balance of the College’s academic and administrative responsibilities with the needs of local business and industry, high schools, government and community organizations. The successful candidate will be a creative leader, open to new ideas and risk-taking, with an understanding of the importance of technology as it relates to institutional effectiveness.
