The University Compliance Officer (UCO) provides program status reporting, advice, analysis and specific recommendations on overall progress to the Board of Trustees, the President and senior management on matters of compliance and enterprise risk management.

 The UCO’s primary responsibility is to oversee and coordinate university-wide compliance and risk management activities, ensuring that the university and its employees are complying with domestic, local and international regulatory requirements as well as internal policies and procedures.  The UCO is the primary architect and steward of the university’s compliance strategy and processes. The UCO assesses, prioritizes and participates in the implementation of the university’s compliance program. The incumbent communicates and collaborates with the Office of University Counsel, Internal Audits, Risk Management and Treasury, and other relevant university officials and units to develop, update and maintain the university’s compliance risk management program, including its risk assessment methodology and compliance risk matrix.

The UCO also monitors compliance associated activities relating to standards of conduct and ethical relationships throughout the university; ensures that training curriculum content, methods and expected training outcomes meet legal, regulatory, and university objectives; and keeps abreast of pending regulatory developments. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

Relevant Bachelor’s degree, an advanced degree strongly preferred.  Minimum of seven to ten years’ experience including experience in a leadership role addressing legal or regulatory requirements, preferably in an academic or healthcare environment.

Required Skills and Abilities:

Outstanding verbal, written and interpersonal skills.

Preferred:

Working knowledge of laws and regulations in one or more of the following areas is desirable: HEOA, athletics; FERPA; Clery Act; sponsored research; GLBA, HIPAA/privacy of health information.
