Job Description:

Barrett, The Honors College is seeking a Global Initiatives Program Director to oversee the global programs within the College. This position will work under the direct supervision of Barrett deans to oversee the planning, development, and implementation of the Barrett Global Citizenship/Engagement Initiative. The Global Citizenship/Engagement Initiative includes but is not limited to collaborative international classrooms, visiting Barrett Global Fellows, Barrett only travel programs and Barrett student travel programs. The individual will work closely with Barrett administration, faculty, staff, and students as well as relevant ASU entities and those in other countries (Universities and individuals).

  

Essential Duties:

  • Plans, develops, and implements for growth in Barrett programming around Global Citizenship, working with Barrett, ASU, and outside entities.
  • Identifies and organizes international collaborations in video-conference-based co-teaching. All agreements and logistics will be managed by this position. Must work with external entities (faculty and administration at other universities), ASU curriculum and international office as well as ASU IT division.
  • Carries out programming and logistics for visiting distinguished Barrett Global Fellows. Planning, follow-through, hosting of fellows while on campus will be managed by this position. Must work with high profile individuals.
  • Aids administration and faculty to develop study abroad programs of various types. Support faculty development of overall travel program as well as specific trips, working especially with the Barrett travel committee and with faculty trip leaders. Coordinating staff involvement in trips.
  • Takes responsibility for communication to students and for student applications to travel programs, including Barrett funded programs for travel.
  • Reports to Barrett deans about planning and structure of programs, taking the vision for this initiative from the Barrett deans.
  • Evaluates the success of all components of the initiative, adjusting goals, and practices as needed.
  • Collaborates with other units to create campaigns that will help attract students to programs. This includes brochures, social media and other ad buys, and any related activities.
  • Reviews and develops student health and safety plans and develops recommendations as appropriate. Ensures compliance with ASU travel policies. Advises students, faculty and staff on these policies.
  • Position may supervise student workers and staff
  • Participates in College events (convocation, Family Weekend, Homecoming, etc.) and assist other units as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND eight (8) years of related administrative experience, which includes five (5) years of supervisory experience; OR, Twelve (12) years of related administrative experience, which includes five (5) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in international education (3 years)
  • Evidence of a master's degree preferred
  • Strong preference for a candidate who has lived, studied, or worked abroad.
  • Bilingual in a foreign language(s) preferred
  • Experience working with foreign countries to include knowledge on contracts, payments, etc.
  • Experience working with international programs in a university setting
  • Demonstrated Knowledge of course development and managing schedules for multiple units
  • Evidence of effective verbal and written, including business writing and public speaking (both in English and native language of foreign institutions)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of communication principles and protocols in higher education
  • Experience in writing proposals and produce reports
  • Experience working with dignitaries
  • Experience in developing and maintaining professional working relationships with culturally diverse groups
  • Experience in work that requires attention to detail and follow through;
  • Experience in managing staff, meeting goals, working in a team environment, and collaborate in a complex organization

 

Working Environment:

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 40 pounds
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions.
  • Some nights and weekends required for position
  • Some travel required for this position
