Management Information Systems Faculty (Tenure-Track)

The Black School of Business at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, is seeking applicants for a tenure-track position in Management Information Systems (MIS) beginning in Fall 2017. Candidates will be considered for appointment at the rank of assistant professor (Ph.D. or DBA required in MIS, Management Science, or related areas; ABDs considered at the instructor level). Teaching and research expertise in data analytics and/or IT strategy is preferred. Relevant industry experience is desirable. High-quality teaching and an active program of scholarship are expected.

The Black School of Business is accredited by AACSB International, listed among the Best Business Schools by Princeton Review and offers nine undergraduate majors, a part time/evening MBA program delivered at two locations, a Master of Professional Accounting (MPAcc), and an online program in Masters in Project Management (MPM). Our faculty also teaches through the University’s online MBA program, which is ranked among the top ten by US News and World Report.

The School has a focus on interdisciplinary programs such as the Interdisciplinary Business & Engineering Studies degree, the MPM program, and an International Business degree which also allows students to specialize in a functional area. The Black School of Business shares a $30 million facility with the School of Engineering, providing a basis for multi-disciplinary educational experience for students, interdisciplinary research for faculty, and joint opportunities for industry engagement. A $20 million dollar endowment, market value of which is approximately $33 million today, helps fund undergraduate scholarships, graduate assistantships, library and information technology resources, outreach activities, several faculty chairs and endowed professorships, as well as new programming initiatives. 

Teaching responsibilities: Standard teaching load consists of the equivalent of 15 credits for the academic year and includes undergraduate and master’s level courses. This position may involve teaching in the University’s on-line MBA program. The candidate should be able to teach at least one core course in databases, systems analysis, or system design.

Research Support: Includes guaranteed summer research support, funded travel to professional meetings, and access to major statistical packages and databases. A partial listing of available databases includes: WRDS, CRSP, Compustat, Eventus, Lexis-Nexis, I/B/E/S, PHLX data, NYSE TAQ, PACAP, Bureau von Dijk, Datastream, and Worldscope. The University is an SAP Alliance partner and the Black School also has an educational alliance with Oracle. Both SAP and Oracle functional databases are available for use by faculty and students.

Salary: Negotiable and competitive with AACSB-accredited schools of business.

Location: Students and faculty enjoy the beauty of the college’s 854-acre campus, located minutes away from the heart of Pennsylvania’s fourth-largest city. Metropolitan Erie has a population of over 280,000 and provides a variety of recreational and cultural activities year round. Erie is located at the intersection of major interstate highways nearly equidistant between Buffalo, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh. Local airport service is available in addition to easy access to the three international airports - all within two hours.
