Description of Position
College of the Sequoias Community College District is seeking a candidate to fill a one-year, full-time temporary position in the Mathematics Department beginning August 2017. Basic teaching assignment will be Mathematics. Course program includes Mathematics courses ranging from Prealgebra through Differential Equations including Computer Science and Statistics. Initial assignment may include evening classes, weekend classes, and teaching at any of our locations in Visalia, Hanford, and/or Tulare.

Minimum Qualifications
The candidate must meet the following criteria. The degree must be from an institution accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges or the equivalent.
• Master's degree in mathematics or applied mathematics
OR
• Bachelor's degree in either of the above AND Master's degree in statistics, physics, or mathematics education OR
• The equivalent AND
• Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the
diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desirable Qualifications
In looking at application materials, the Hiring Committee also seek
• Teaching experience in mathematics at a community college.
• Strong academic background including a master's degree in Mathematics.
• Course work and teaching /industry experience which would enhance the teaching of mathematics (i.e. statistics, engineering, physics, programming).
• Experience working with students from diverse cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic, academic and disability backgrounds.
• Employment of innovative, interactive and alternative teaching methods.
• Willingness to make positive contributions to the department and college outside of the classroom.
• Commitment to professional growth.
• Ability to incorporate student learning outcome
objectives within course and programs and willingness to use and develop stated objectives and measures.

Conditions of Employment
• Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Initial placement with Master's degree ranges from $57,943 to $76,393.

• Employee life insurance ($100,000) is provided.
• Contract period is for ten (10) months during the regular
academic year beginning August 2017 through May
2018.
• Pre-service orientation and/or in-service meetings will
be offered in August 2017.
• A collective bargaining agreement exists, and
membership in the College of the Sequoias Teachers Association (COSTA) or payment of a service fee is required.

Screening Procedure
Only complete application packages will be evaluated by the screening committee. Application materials will be evaluated to determine how fully the applicant meets the Desirable Qualifications. The most successful interviewees will be invited to a second interview with the District President. All costs incurred as a result of the application/selection process shall be borne by the candidate.
