Executive Director, Bing Overseas Studies Program

Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (VPUE)

 

 

In partnership with faculty leadership, provide strategic direction and leadership for the administrative and operations-related functions and academic affairs of the Bing Overseas Studies Program (BOSP) in a set of diverse overseas locations (Australia, China, Berlin, Cape Town, Florence, Kyoto, Madrid, Oxford, Paris, Santiago, and other locations as necessary). Achieve the mission and goals of BOSP through the management of staff and operations. 

 

Core Duties*:

  • Direct staff and provide leadership to achieve goals and vision of the organization. Responsible for hiring and retaining staff, career coaching, personal development for direct reports and accountable for the performance of employees.
  • In collaboration with human resources managers (Global HR and VPUE HR), direct faculty supervisors and overseas directors in the interpretation and implementation of human resources policies, procedures and programs; develop staffing models in support of new initiatives, realigning resources as needed. Provide employee and supervisor coaching on campus and abroad, often under the constraints of foreign law and local customs.
  • Independently initiate and create strategic plans for BOSP. Develop solutions for operational and management issues, both locally and overseas. Negotiate the boundaries between foreign cultures and legal environments while keeping the integrity of Stanford administrative policy and U.S. law intact.
  • Respond to any international incident that may pose a threat to the health, safety, or well-being of Stanford students, faculty, or staff who are participating in BOSP programs. Partner with campus and overseas partners to determine the appropriate response and communication strategy.
  • Advise senior management on programmatic and policy development. May provide input to university leadership on institutional academic and administrative policies and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the faculty director in developing and envisioning selection criteria for new programs and alternative program models, analyzing and developing recommendations for faculty and student support mechanisms, business models.
  • Work in partnership with the Office of Development to identify gift opportunities consistent with programmatic needs for discussion with prospective donors. Manage stewardship program and communicate with major donors about specific program activities of interest to them.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree and seven years of relevant experience in administrative and financial management, or combination of education and relevant experience. Demonstrated leadership and supervisory, planning and change management skills.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Occasional evening and weekend hours.
  • Frequent travel domestically and internationally requiring ability to lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain current U.S. passport.
