Germanic and Slavic Languages and Linguistics Librarian

The Pennsylvania State University Libraries seeks applications and nominations for a librarian to serve as subject specialist for Germanic and Slavic languages and literatures and Linguistics. Based in the Arts and Humanities Library, this 12 month tenure-track faculty position reports to the head of the Arts and Humanities Library and serves as the liaison to departments and programs in the College of the Liberal Arts including the Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures, the Linguistics Program, and the Department of Applied Linguistics, and as a subject consultant for students, faculty, and library colleagues at all Penn State campuses including the online World Campus. Responsibilities of the position include developing research and teaching collections in Germanic and Slavic languages and literatures, linguistics, and applied linguistics; fostering all forms of scholarly communication including digital scholarship and open access; engaging in the intellectual life of relevant departments and programs in the college; promoting information literacy by developing and delivering course-related and other instructional sessions; promoting online learning by developing subject guides, tutorials, and other learning objects; and providing research consultation and reference service in face-to-face and online environments. In addition to these duties, tenure track library faculty are expected to devote time to research, scholarship, and service to the University and the profession. Qualifications: Requires a Master of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited institution (or equivalent), and academic background or relevant experience in Germanic and Slavic languages and literatures. Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills, and a strong commitment to diversity, equity, respect and inclusion. Candidates must have the potential for success in the tenure process according to the University Libraries criteria for librarianship, research, and service. Preferred qualifications: academic background or relevant experience in linguistics or applied linguistics. Experience with digital humanities programs or projects. Compensation and Benefits: Salary and rank are dependent upon qualifications. In addition, faculty in the University Libraries are afforded funds for professional development travel annually. Faculty may be asked to travel as official representatives of the Libraries to certain events and those trips are reimbursed at full cost within limits established by the University.
