Piano/Instrument Technician (Equipment Technician I, Specialized Equipment)

Salary:
Salary Range: $3,419 ­ $5,551 per month
Anticipated Hiring Range: $3,419 ­ $4,200 per month
Note: This is a 12­month, full­time (40 hours a week) probationary, non­exempt position.

Overview:
Under general supervision of the department chair or designee, the technician will support the mission of the department and the university by tuning and repairing pianos, repairing common musical instruments, maintaining a large inventory of acoustic and electronic musical instruments, repair apparatuses and supplies, and other common musical equipment such as music stands and choral risers.

Position Summary:
∙ Tune, maintain, and repair pianos and common musical instruments
∙ Document and maintain accurate records of musical instrument and equipment inventory, purchases and repairs Independent organization, storage, issuance and retrieval of musical instruments, musical equipment, and student lockers Plan for musical instrument and equipment replacements and purchases
∙ Plan and coordinate keyboard instrument maintenance
∙ Provide technical advice and assistance relative to purchase and repair of musical instrument and equipment inventory Repair and maintain inventory of non­-instrumental equipment
∙ Other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
∙ General knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in the repair and maintenance of common musical instruments Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
∙ Computer and databasing skills
∙ Ability to:
∙ Read, write, and verbally communicate in correct English
∙ Organize and develop comprehensive musical instrument (acoustic and electronic instruments) and musical equipment maintenance/replacement plans.
∙ Maintain accurate paper and database records of musical instrument and equipment inventory, purchases and repairs Perform repair, research and submit purchase requests in a timely and efficient manner.
∙ Plan and organize work schedules to be efficient and to meet the needs of the department
∙ Establish priorities and determine deadlines as well as adapt to changes in schedules and procedures
∙ Assist faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds
∙ A history of punctuality and a positive employment record

Education and Experience:
Equivalent to two years of trade school or technical arts training with specialization in piano maintenance and tuning as well as minor instrument repair. Completion of an apprenticeship program in the maintenance and repair of musical instruments may be substituted for the required experience. Must provide documented evidence of formal training and certification.

Specialized Skills:
Ability to tune and/or repair concert and classroom pianos as well as common musical instruments such as woodwind, brass, percussion, and stringed instruments.

Preferred Skills:
Five or more years of experience in piano maintenance and tuning and minor instrument repair
