Job Description:

Through Educational Outreach and Student Services, this position works with ASU students, faculty, and staff to ensure access to educational programs and services for students with disabilities.

 

Essential Duties:             

Coordinating access to services and accommodations for students with disabilities

Meet with students to determine current accommodation needs and provide ongoing support for the duration of their academic career

Coordinate referrals to appropriate resources both within the university and in the community

Review disability documentation to determine eligibility for services

Provide information to prospective students and their parents regarding services, university resources, transition questions and concerns, documentation guidelines, and the process for determining  reasonable accommodations

Work collaboratively with High Schools, Community Colleges, Universities, Vocational Rehabilitation and other community agencies to provide ongoing support for students

Provide timely and responsive service to students

Work with faculty and staff to ensure an optimal learning environment is created for students

Provide guidance to faculty and staff regarding questions they have in working with students with     disabilities

Conduct presentations, develop programming, and engage with various departments and agencies in order to ensure collaborative support for students with disabilities

Maintain confidential files and records

Participate in university committees

Stay current on theories, best practices, and current legislation related to disability issues, developmental education, and student development.

Support and participate in spirit, pride, and tradition initiatives

Duties as otherwise assigned

 

Days and Schedule: The DRC office is open Monday – Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm; this position will require occasional evening and weekend commitments.

 

This job is primarily located at the ASU Polytechnic location; however, incumbent may occasionally be required to travel to other ASU campus locations to perform work or represent the department.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in Rehabilition Counseling, Counseling, Educational Psychology or related field AND two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in a closely related position; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

 

Desired Qualifications:

Evidence of a Master's degree in Higher Education

Experience working with students with disabilities in a Higher Education Setting

Experience coordinating services for students

Experience providing one on one support for students

Experience in reviewing disability documentation

Experience in developing and maintaining meaningful partnerships/relationships

Experience working with Assistive Technology

Demonstrated knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, policies, regulations, and standards (e.g. Section 504 and the ADAA)

Demonstrated knowledge of universal design principles and techniques

Demonstrated knowledge of ASU Sun Devil Way and Educational Outreach and Student Services Goals

Working Environment    Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled professional office setting under the following conditions:

Work performed is subject to extended periods of sitting and standing and may be required to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods of time.

Work performed is subject to extended periods using standard office equipment such as a computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse) inputting, reviewing and retrieving information; extended periods of viewing a monitor or screen; and using printer, fax, calculator, copier, and telephone.

Communicate both orally and in writing in English through email, print, phone, and web media with students, staff, faculty, and members of the public who interact with the Dean of Students Office.

Use independent judgment and critical thinking to make decisions and/or analyze data.

Professionally represent department/program.

Work collaboratively across various departments within the University as well as with diverse populations and groups.

Walk moderate distances across campus for meetings or events, which may include times of inclement weather.

Work at and with all four campus location

The Disability Resource Center provides services to qualified students with disabilities on all ASU campuses.

 

Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS) is committed to enrolling all qualified students at Arizona State University and assisting them in their academic success.  EOSS provides a broad range of services and support to students and prospective students ranging from outreach efforts with K-12 schools, orientation programs for new freshman, bridge programs to assist the transition to a university environment, and a wide variety of services, programs and activities for enrolled students.  EOSS has direct responsibility for multiple departments across four campuses, some of which include the Dean of Students, University Housing, Health Services, Counseling Services, Disability Resources, the Memorial Union, Upward Bound and TRiO programs, Sun Devil Fitness, Student Government, Student Media, Career Services and others.
