Georgia Tech, one of the nation's premiere research universities, consistently ranking among U.S. News & World Report's Top Ten public universities, invites nominations and applications for the position of Assessment Specialist in the Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE).  Under the leadership of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, OUE is charged with maintaining the quality of undergraduate education and the academic success of undergraduate students at Georgia Tech.  Its reporting units consist of the Center for Academic Success, Center for Academic Enrichment, Honors Program, Center for Serve-Learn-Sustain, and Center for Career Discovery and Development. 

The Undergraduate Education Assessment Specialist designs and manages the assessment process for all units in OUE.  In addition, the position oversees the assessment of Tech’s general education curriculum.   Finally, this position prepares reports and performs statistical analyses for accreditation activities, annual reporting, strategic planning, research, and related activities. This position reports directly to the Associate Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education.

Responsibilities

  1. Lead the assessment of Georgia Tech’s general education (core curriculum) learning outcomes (35%)
    • collaborate with faculty who teach general education courses to design, measure, and assess general education learning outcomes, ensuring that general education assessment meets all appropriate accreditation standards (such as SACSCOC)
    • design rubrics and other direct and indirect assessment tools for general education assessment through the curriculum and utilize technology and best practices to ensure that the process is efficient
    • work in close coordination with the Institute Undergraduate Curriculum Committee (IUCC) General Education subcommittee
    • prepare an annual report on general education and assessment of general education learning outcomes
  • Coordinate the assessment and outcomes reporting process for the Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE) reporting units (35%)
    • consult with OUE units to develop program and unit assessment plans that are in alignment with unit, OUE, and Institute strategic goals
    • assist OUE units in developing assessment tools, including surveys, focus groups, rubrics, and other forms of direct and indirect assessment
    • serve as OUE’s primary contact with the Institutional Research and Planning (IRP) to obtain necessary data sets and coordinate ongoing or ad hoc studies from institutional data
    • prepare an annual assessment and outcomes report for OUE
    • conduct workshops and other professional development on assessment topics
    • provide consultation to OUE units on assessment and data projects
    • convene and chair an OUE Assessment Committee, to include representatives from all OUE units
    • ensure data collection methods and data storage follow all GT policies and best practices
    • assist units with IRB certification as appropriate                                                                          
  • Prepare reports and other documents and conduct statistical analyses (25%)
    • Prepare an annual report for OUE that summarizes programmatic and assessment outcomes
    • Design and write reports summarizing results of assessment activities and survey research, including briefing reports from national surveys and other studies related to undergraduate education
    • Write reports and narratives for accreditation standards
    • Assist with other research, report writing, and related duties as assigned by the Associate Vice Provost.
  •   Serve on Institute Committees, Task Forces and Perform Other Duties as Assigned (5%)
  • Education

    Degrees required for this job: Masters degree in a quantitative social science, education, mathematics, computer science, statistics, public policy, public health, or in a related discipline providing rigorous preparation in statistical analysis, research design, assessment and data analysis methods.

    Experience and Skills

    This position requires advanced working knowledge and skills in project management, data organization, records management, database search and management, composition, technical writing, statistical analysis, communications and formatting. Advanced use of specialized computer applications and databases is required.

    Required Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Proven expertise in designing, conducting, analyzing, and reporting survey research projects
    • A minimum of three years of direct experience in assessment, evaluation, or institutional research
    • Graduate-level preparation in statistics, research design, and measurement
    • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to work with faculty and staff members on assessment projects
    • Demonstrated fluency in research report writing, as well as oral and graphic presentation of research findings
    • Demonstrated facility with MS Office applications, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
    • Demonstrated facility with statistical analysis packages (e.g. SAS, SPSS)
    • Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
    • Attention to detail and accuracy

    Preferred Skills include: 

    • Professional experience in a research university setting
    • Experience with BANNER and/or Peoplesoft preferred
    • Experience with Qualtrics (or comparable survey design platform)
    • Experience with Data Visualization software
    • Experience with accreditation as it relates to assessment of learning outcomes
