The Director of Undergraduate Admissions reports to the Associate Vice Provost for Enrollment Management and provides leadership in advancing optimal strategic recruitment and admissions initiatives to meet the University’s enrollment goals. The Director is responsible for managing a comprehensive and integrated data-informed recruitment and admissions process to attract and retain highly qualified and talented freshmen and transfer students. The Director supervises professional and support staff, works closely with the directors in the Enrollment Management Department, and collaborates with department heads and key faculty members in each of the respective colleges to enhance university enrollment.

The Director will possess great analytic depth; an eye for the possible; deep understanding of the national higher education landscape; an eagerness to engage in meaningful interchange about enrollment trade-offs and challenges with university leadership, faculty and others; a mature leadership style; a commitment to supporting and developing staff; and demonstrated impact advancing diversity and inclusive excellence. The Director must have the ability to speak publicly and extensively about a North Carolina A&T State University education in various contexts. The director has full accountability for the effectiveness of recruitment and admissions, building the pipeline, overseeing recruiting for undergraduate and pre-college programs, review, evaluation, and enrollment of defined goals for new undergraduates each year. The Director utilizes strategic planning, critical thinking and problem solving skills to analyze trends in enrollment and marketing activities. The Director must adapt, improvise, design plans, and implement changes that move enrollment goals and activities forward. The Director must also:

Provide administrative oversight and lead and implement the daily operations in the Office of Admissions. The Director will provide strong leadership with the planning, budgeting, resource management, and professional staff development in the Office of Admissions.

Develop and implement institutional admissions/enrollment plans and activities, in concert with Associate Vice Provost for Enrollment Management and various campus units.

Provide input and assistance for the implementation of enrollment management activities, in concert with various University administrative groups (Chancellor’s staff, Academic Affairs staff, Student Affairs staff, Enrollment Management, Academic Standards).

Partner with the Associate Vice Provost for Enrollment Management and Director of Financial Aid on strategic enrollment management.

Serve as liaison between the enrollment management function and the functions of high school relations, diversity recruitment, transfer recruitment, non-resident recruitment and admissions processing.

Develop, manage and assess recruitment and admissions strategies to achieve enrollment goals.

Convene and lead regular staff meetings, maintaining a culture of collaboration, transparency, excellence. 

Oversee hiring, training, coaching and team-building for all admissions staff.

Create and monitor meaningful dashboards and reports to keep all stakeholders informed of progress in recruitment and admissions.

Identify needs, tools and processes to assist in more efficient and effective performance.

Ensure the admissions team is following standard practices, policies and procedures.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices in recruitment and retention of undergraduate students.

Collaborate in developing and implementing strategies to achieve enrollment goals.

 

Minimum Requirements             

Master’s degree is required. The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellent leadership skills, a proven recruitment, admissions, enrollment track-record, and possess the ability to manage and lead staff. Expertise in enrollment management issues and trends related to achieving enrollment goals, financial aid leveraging, and the ability to make data-driven decisions are required. The Director will utilize a data-informed integrated strategic enrollment management plan to develop, lead, and implement an aggressive recruitment and admissions plan to recruit and retain a diverse pool of students. Demonstrated success in collaborating within all levels of the institution, and the ability to work effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. The successful candidate should have a strong commitment to customer service and community relations, a collaborative approach to problem resolution, and a willingness to be proactive in improving services through direct outreach to students.

Evidence of management skills and competence in personnel, budget, and enrollment services is necessary. Experience with marketing, public relations or advertising strategies including experience utilizing cutting-edge technologies. Collaboration with other campus units and within the office is essential. Sensitivity to academic standards and enrollment requirements and an ability to relate on many different levels to the diverse student, faculty, administrative, and community contacts that this position encounters is also essential. The demonstration of exceptional skills in working with diverse students and communities is a priority.

 

Preferred           

The ideal candidate will have a master’s degree in a related field and five to seven years of progressive leadership in admissions preferably as a director or associate director. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of student data base systems such as: BANNER, PeopleSoft, Datatel, AdmissionPros or similar.
