Director of Financial Aid

 

Westmoreland County Community College, in partnership with the national search firm of Scott Healy & Associates, invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of Financial Aid. Reporting to the Vice President of Enrollment Management, the Director will lead a progressive and dynamic financial aid department in order to support and advance institutional efforts to increase student access and success. The Director will plan, organize and manage the operations and activities of federal, state, local and privately funded financial aid, monitor and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, evaluate operations leading to continuous improvement, supervision, and evaluation of the financial aid staff.

Since its founding in 1970, Westmoreland County Community College has provided affordable, high-quality, postsecondary education to thousands of southwestern Pennsylvania residents.

 

Westmoreland is a comprehensive community college serving approximately 5,550 students each fall and spring semester at seven locations and online. The college encompasses the main campus and six education centers in Westmoreland, Fayette, Greene and Indiana counties, strategically located to serve every area of the region.  Also, Westmoreland’s state-of-the-art Advanced Technology Center offers education and training for students and incumbent workers in advanced manufacturing.  Occupying 73,500-square-feet-of-space at RIDC-Westmoreland in Mount Pleasant, the center features numerous specialized labs to enhance learning, including computer-aided drafting and design, computer numerical control, electronics, energy, metallurgy and welding/virtual welding.

 

The main campus is located in rural Youngwood, Pa., a short distance from the New Stanton Interchange of the Pennsylvania Turnpike off Route 119. The 80-acre campus comprises four buildings: Founders Hall, Commissioners Hall, Science Hall, and the Business and Industry Center which contain general classrooms, smart classrooms and laboratories with modern equipment that provide opportunities for students to gain hands-on experiences in a variety of career fields. Founders Hall also contains the college bookstore, library, student activities center, gymnasium and fitness center, a state-recognized child day care and preschool facility and more. In addition, there are athletic fields for baseball, softball, soccer and other sporting activities.

The Youngwood, PA and Greater Pittsburgh Community:

Westmoreland County is located in Southwestern Pennsylvania and nestled in the scenic Laurel Highlands. Pittsburgh is 35 miles from the college. This vibrant city has become known for its world-class healthcare facilities, flourishing art and entertainment scene, recreational opportunities and diverse food culture. The Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins professional sports teams call this city their home.

The region is home to a number of landmarks including the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Fallingwater, the Bushy Run Battlefield and historic Fort Ligonier. The city of Latrobe alone is the birthplace of the late golfer Arnold Palmer and the late entertainer Fred Rogers, the site of the first professional football game and the birthplace of the banana split.

The Director of Financial Aid Position Overview:

The College seeks a dynamic and committed leader to inspire the next stages of Westmoreland County Community College’s financial aid vision and strategies. Working with the Vice President of Enrollment Management and the entire College community, the Director will be called upon to lead all financial aid efforts and initiatives.  By doing so, the Director will ensure that Westmoreland County Community College continues to fulfill its mission in service to its students and the community.

The successful candidate should meet the following qualifications:

  • Seven years of progressively increasing responsibility in a financial aid operation in higher education
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Masters preferred)
  • Proven Success in planning, organizing and managing the operations and activities of federal, state, local and privately funded financial aid
  • Ability to incorporate financial aid into the overall enrollment management plan of the College
  • Ability to motivate and mentor a strong team
  • Demonstrated skills and abilities to effectively utilize databases, word-processing, spreadsheets and online computer transactions
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competencies of the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) system and Ellucian Colleague system
  • Demonstrated success in promoting and fostering a student-centered team
