POSITION DESCRIPTION
INSTRUCTOR and COORDINATOR OF SOCIAL WORK CONTINUING
EDUCATION PROGRAM
(One faculty position effective 8/16/2017)
Position Summary
The University of Alabama School of Social Work invites
applications for one renewable instructor faculty position. The
position is a nine-month, full time, 1.0 FTE academic appointment
scheduled to begin August 16, 2017. Summer teaching and
administration are available. Duties include a combination of
administration (.5 FTE Coordinator of new Social Work
Continuing Education Program) and instruction (.5 FTE online and
face-to-face). Additional duties include advising and serving on
school, university and community committees.
We seek a talented, collegial and innovative faculty who has a track record of graduate and undergraduate instruction in social work plus administrative experience in conference or workshop planning related to Continuing Education.
Minimum Qualifications
We are seeking applicants who hold a Masters in Social Work with a
minimum of two years post-Master’s experience. Applicants
must have knowledge of social work licensing requirements,
understanding of alumni engagement strategies and experience
working with multiple online instructional and administrative
platforms. Applicants must have experience in administration and
good organizational skills necessary to develop, coordinate and
manage multiple workshop offerings in consultation with our
university partner, College of Continuing Studies. In the
area of instruction, we are looking for faculty who have clinical
expertise to teach courses in psychopathology and clinical social
work. Additionally, we are strongly invested in recruiting
colleagues who, in their practice and teaching experience,
demonstrate knowledge of and sensitivity to the needs of culturally
diverse and underrepresented populations and communities, as well
as a commitment to social justice. Applicants should have an
interest and expertise in reaching our diverse student body through
online and face-to-face instruction and advising.
Preferred Qualifications
Licensed in
clinical social work; strong background in a variety of community
relationships and partnerships; knowledge of evidence-based
practices and emerging educational trends in social work;
applicants with a PhD will be considered.
School of Social Work
The University’s School of Social Work, established in 1965, has an
accomplished faculty of 23 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 11
full-time teaching (instructor) faculty and 19 dedicated
professional and support staff. The School has a long-standing
internship program in Washington, DC and international initiatives
in locations including Ghana and South Korea. The school
enjoys good relationships with federal, state and local social
service, health, and educational agencies and institutions. We have
a strong and vibrant alumni community.
Faculty instructors have excellent support for research and teaching, a School of Social Work Office of Research, in-house librarian, and opportunities to work with nationally-prominent research colleagues. In 2017, the School will occupy a newly-renovated historical building, centrally located on campus with state-of-the-art computing equipment and multi-media classrooms. Compensation
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and
qualifications. Compensation includes a benefits package with
healthcare, reduced tuition rates and retirement. Summer teaching
opportunities are available for additional compensation.
