SUMMARY:
The Vice President for Institutional Advancement reports directly to the President and provides strategic direction, vision and management of the University's overall institutional advancement efforts, including annual and major gift fundraising and capital campaigns, community and public relations, alumni relations, and marketing. The Vice President for Institutional Advancement serves on the Executive Committee of the Administration.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The primary responsibilities of the Vice President of
Institutional Advancement are the identification, cultivation, and
solicitation of major gift donors and overseeing the development
and successful implementation of capital campaigns. Works
collaboratively with the President on donor prospect development
for major gift solicitation. Works closely with the Deans and Vice
President of Enrollment Management to coordinate, and prioritize
Institutional Advancement goals that arise from their
constituencies. Oversees donor stewardship and activities that
foster the relationship between SHU and its donors. Coordinates
major gifts fund raising with Alumni Relations, Annual Fund,
Athletics, and colleges and departments. Oversees comprehensive
studies of University's donors/potential donors, testing their
perceptions of and commitment to SHU. Oversee
identification/researching of individuals, corporations and
foundations maintaining a prospect management system. Oversees
management of Division's information database, and its
interrelationship with campus departments. Leads a fundraising team
to solicit and secure funds/resources that enable the University to
accomplish its mission and strategic goals. Leads Institutional
Advancement team to create, implement and revise a multi-year
comprehensive plan, consistent with the overall University's
Strategic Plan. Actively works with Advancement team to plan and
implement strategic activities in identifying and cultivating
donors and organizations. Act as a University liaison with the
institution’s lobbyist for the federal government. Manages
Institutional Advancement team to ensure effective divisional
teamwork. Supervises divisional operation, including
planning/monitoring of its budget and regular assessment of the
cost-effectiveness of the unit. Oversees the University's
comprehensive, integrated marketing/communications efforts to
enhance the University's image. Implements a university-wide
marketing communications program focusing on consistent messages
and identity, public affairs, publications, advertising, and web
online communication. Oversees operations of alumni and parents’
relations to ensure effective contact with these constituent
groups. Oversees the planning and coordination of special events
that promote university relations with students, parents, alumni,
and donors.
REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s Degree in related field required; earned Doctorate with CFRE certification (Certified Fund-Raising Executive) or comparable professional development and background preferred. Three to five years of progressive experience in assisting in the implementation of strategic, comprehensive, and integrated communication and marketing programs. Proven track record of securing major gifts, planning campaigns and annual giving programs, working with alumni groups, and developing a strategic plan for advancement. Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of annual giving, special events, major gifts, and major gift fundraising, preferably in higher education. Progressive fundraising experience with supervisory duties, preferably in higher education. Ability to conceptualize, design and implement a development program. Ability to direct the design of strategies for cultivation and solicitation of donor prospects. Ability to work effectively with deans and directors, academic and university leaders and volunteers to achieve fundraising goals and to develop bonds. Ability to work effectively with other advancement staff in devising, analyzing, modifying, implementing and evaluating overall University Advancement programs. Skill in communicating persuasively, both orally and in writing, about private gift fundraising in general and, in particular, as it applies to SHU. Ability to foster a cooperative environment and to work in a collegial fashion with peers in other organizational units. Ability to travel and promote SHU to potential donors, alumni, government agencies, and the general public.
