Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a twelve-month, non-tenure track Librarian Associate Professor/Scholarly Communications Librarian faculty position in the Library.

Position Responsibilities:

The KSU Library System seeks a dynamic, collegial, flexible, experienced, and research-oriented librarian to further the promotion and outreach efforts related to scholarly communication. The successful candidate will have a keen interest in the extensive scholarly communications landscape including digital publishing and preservation, open access platforms, open educational resources, open data, copyright, and related intellectual property issues. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary as the librarian will be expected to play an active role in expanding and promoting the library’s scholarly communications initiatives. This position may spend time working at either the Sturgis Library on the Kennesaw Campus, or the Johnson Library on the Marietta Campus. The incumbent will work under the general supervisions of the Director of the Graduate Library. Major Responsibilities:

  1. Develop policies and programming for library-wide and university-wide scholarly communications program.
  2. Work closely with Graduate Librarians and Undergraduate Subject Liaisons to promote faculty awareness of scholarly communication issues. Develop informational and training tools that can be used by these librarians.
  3. Develop and maintain a broad network of partners among faculty, scholars, graduate students, librarians, administrators, and committees in campus and systemwide offices to inform, support, and advance the library’s scholarly communications programs.
  4. Stay informed of and keep library and faculty up to date on national and international trends, legislation, and pending changes in intellectual property rights, commercial and academic/research scholarly publishing, and information technologies that affect access and preservation of scholarly information.
  5. Develop initiatives that encourage and enable faculty to manage their own copyright and improve the economies of and access to published research.
  6. Serve as the lead librarian on copyright and intellectual property developments and issues. Work collaboratively with the university’s Legal Affairs department to provide timely and accurate information of author’s rights management.
  7. Collaborate with the Managing Editor of the Digital Commons to promote and increase the holdings of the library’s digital repository.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education, qualifications, and experience:

  1. Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program or foreign equivalent AND A minimum of three years of recent full time professional experience in a library or publishing environment with at least two of those years spent in an increasingly responsible role related to scholarly communications.
  2. Impeccable written, oral, presentation, and teaching skills.
  3. Ability to work collaboratively with multiple constituencies: undergraduate and graduate students, university staff, librarians, faculty members, and senior level university administration. Applicants with the training, ability, and/or experience equivalent to the minimum degree may be considered.
