Essential Duties:

1. Manage Surgical Technology program fiscal affairs and is the direct custodian of the Surgical Technology program budget. Approves equipment and supply purchases for the program at the appropriate level (development and management).

2. Supervise all Surgical Technology faculty and staff and assures appropriate paperwork is completed in a timely manner.

3. Delegate program duties such as administrative work and teaching loads to Surgical Technology faculty and staff – and monitors their progress.

4. Assure completion and quality of all required national, state, college, and departmental paperwork in a timely manner. Attends participates in meetings and committees as required.

5. Responsible for monitoring whether teaching faculty are current on all necessary certifications.

6. Recruit new faculty and initiate hiring process when required.

7. Maintain appropriate program acreditations and all associated records.

8. Maintain appropriate teaching load as assigned by the college with the associated duties of lead instructor for assigned classes.

9. Approve all Surgical Technology course materials and schedules with working knowledge of curriculum development.

10. Initiate program assessment and curriculum evaluations in conjuction with appropriate Surgical Technology faculty.

11. Serve as program liason with affiliated clinical sites, Texas Department of Health, and other certifying or accrediting agencies – as well as other Blinn College departments and administration.

12. Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1. Possess a credential in the field of Surgical Technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCAA).

2. Have a minimum of five (5) years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role, or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past ten years.

3. Possess an Associate’s degree or higher, in a related field.

4. Possess proficiency in instructional methodology, curriculum design, and program planning.
