General Purpose:  The Assistant Dean of Student Conduct and Community Standards administers and oversees undergraduate conduct for students and student organizations at Yale College. The Assistant Dean serves as secretary of the Student Conduct and Community Standards Committee and manages the investigation and disposition of complaints and information concerning possible violations of student and organizational conduct, and academic integrity. The Assistant Dean develops, interprets and implements policies and procedures regarding conduct and community standards as set forth in the undergraduate regulations, and leads efforts to educate students, student leaders, members of student groups, and others on the same. The Assistant Dean of Student Conduct reports to the Dean of Student Affairs.  Additional duties include:

  • Occasional evenings and weekends. Availability to adjudicate and hear cases in summer months.
  • Consistent and predicable availability, and ability to respond to urgent questions and concerns related to on-campus issues.

This is a three-year renewable term appointment, with a start date of June 1, 2017 or thereafter.

Required Education and Experience:  Advanced degree and at least four years of experience in student conduct and higher-education administration.

Qualifications:

  • Direct experience with student affairs, student conduct and/or student judicial processes. Demonstrated cultural competence and proven effectiveness in serving the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Maintenance of the strictest levels of confidentiality and adherence to the highest ethical standards. Excellent and mature judgment.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Superb interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills, and capacity to work collaboratively and independently. Superb advising skills.
  • Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Proven experience in working with students, faculty, academic administrators. Knowledgeable about issues in student affairs and student conduct. College teaching experience preferred.
