The Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies, is a Department of Defense executive education institution that educates, empowers, connects, current and future leaders from the Asia-Pacific region. The Center offers in-resident courses, presents workshops, seminars in Honolulu and in the Asia-Pacific region, conducts policy-relevant research, address traditional and non-traditional security issues, including the relationship between governance and security, transnational threats such as crime, terrorism and trafficking; management of natural and man-made crisis; multilateral and whole-of-society collaboration; and specific issues such as health security, maritime security and security impact of climate change. The audience of Fellows are mid to senior level civilian and military officials from all over the world. The Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies is located in Honolulu, Hawaii.
FACULTY MEMBER
The Center currently seeks world class educators to teach, facilitate, and conduct research. Responsibilities include:
- Teaching executive education courses in a participant-centered, activity-based context
- Facilitating seminars and workshops in residential courses, regional seminars, and workshops
- Contributing to curriculum development
- Conducting and publishing individual and group research
- Contributing analysis of security-related trends in the Asia-Pacific region
- Performing administrative and staff duties to support the Center’s academic functions
Of particular interest are candidates with expertise in the following areas:
Expertise is sought in the following areas:
S. Foreign Policy: particular reference to U. S. Policy in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
Knowledge of U. S. Policy: history, strategic dynamics, and contemporary debates as these
Relate to the use and implementation of U. S. Foreign Policy in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
Practitioner Experience: direct foreign policy experience with a deep understanding of foreign policy practice in the region, will be considered an asset.
Ideal candidates will possess the following:
Master Degree or PhD in a related area or discipline.
Proven ability in teaching and seminar facilitation.
Proven ability to function as a team member.
The following are preferred for all faculty positions:
Experience working in the Indo-Asia Pacific region
Expertise in the security sector of one or more Asia-Pacific countries.
Familiarity with case method teaching, state-of-the-art educational technology and/or gaming.
Professional expertise at the operational, strategic or policy level in a whole-of-government or multilateral setting.
Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications. Salary range is $87,122 - $136,893 includes HI Locality pay but excludes cost of living allowance (COLA), currently 11.32% but subject to change). These are limited-term, excepted-service positions, for up to three years (with the possibility of renewal). Relocation expenses may be authorized.
