The Assistant Provost for Finance and Administration is responsible for undertaking analyses, researching issues, preparing reports, and developing recommendations to support strategic and operational planning, resource planning, integration of academic and resource planning, and the planning and development of administrative processes and practices in the Provost’s areas of responsibility.  The Assistant Provost is also responsible for administrative operations, budget and financial management, and staff and administrative personnel support in the Office of the Provost.

Financial Planning and Management (50%)

Serves as a liaison with the University Finance Office with regard to budget and financial management issues for the Office of the Provost

Coordinates the annual budget process with the University Budget Office on behalf of the Office of the Provost

Coordinates the preparation and management of the annual operating budget and associated funds for the Office of the Provost

Conducts analyses, researches issues, and prepares reports to support University annual and long term financial planning and budgeting for the College and schools, centers of distinction, and administrative units reporting to the Provost

Serves as a resource person for the Provost, deans, vice provosts, executive directors of the centers of distinction, director of athletics and recreation and their respective staffs with issues pertaining to financial planning and management

Staff and Administrative Human Resource Planning and Management (25%)

Serves as a liaison with Human Resources and the University Finance Office with regard to staff and administrative personnel issues

Coordinates the process of appointments and promotions of librarians and other academic staff handled through the Office of the Provost in accordance with applicable University policies and procedures

Coordinates the process of appointments of staff in the College and schools, centers of distinction, and administrative units reporting to the Provost, including the approval of staff personnel requisitions, in accordance with applicable University policies and procedures

Assists with the annual staff salary planning process through the Office of the Provost and conducts analyses to facilitate salary decisions

Serves as a resource person for the Provost, deans, vice provosts, executive directors of the centers of distinction, and their respective staffs with issues pertaining to staff personnel policies and procedures

Resource Planning (10%)

Collaborates with staff from the University Finance Office, the College and schools, centers of distinction, and administrative units to conduct analyses and develop recommendations to support financial planning in the Provost’s areas of responsibility

Collaborates with staff from Human Resources, the College and schools, centers of distinction, and administrative units to conduct analyses and develop recommendations to support human resource planning in the Provost’s areas of responsibility

Collaborates with staff from University Operations, the College and schools, centers of distinction, and administrative units to conduct analyses and develop recommendations to support facility planning in the Provost’s areas of responsibility

Collaborates with staff from Information Services, the College and schools, centers of distinction, and administrative units to conduct analyses and develop recommendations to support technology planning in the Provost’s areas of responsibility

Strategic and Operational Planning (10%)

Conducts analyses, researches issues, prepares reports, and makes recommendations to support University strategic and operational planning

Conducts analyses, researches issues, prepares reports, and makes recommendations to support the integration of academic and resource planning

Planning and Development of Administrative Processes and Practices (5%)

Evaluates and develops recommendations to improve administrative processes and practices in the Provost’s areas of responsibility

Collaborates with staff from Human Resources, the University Finance Office, Information Services, the College and schools, centers of distinction, and administrative units reporting to the Provost to conduct analyses and develop recommendations to improve the integration of processes and practices associated with human resources, financial, and student administration information systems
