Assistive Technology Specialist

The Assistive Technology Specialist is responsible for conducting accessibility compliance testing, training designers and developers on using W3C standards and providing online accommodations with alternative media, as well as ensure compliance and educate staff, designers, developers, and faculty on the application of ADA/504/508 legal obligations/guidance. The Assistive Technology Specialist will also help with general instructional design, development, and training as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Assistive Technology, Educational Technology, Instructional Design or related field PLUS minimum 2 years experience in assessing accessibility compliance and creating strategies to meet legal requirements OR Bachelor’s degree in Education, Assistive Technology, Educational Technology, Instructional Design or related field PLUS Assistive Technology Certificate (i.e. CSUN ATACP or RESNA ATP).

• Experience using tools to aid in accessibility evaluation.

• Successful candidate must either posess or have the ability and willingness to pursue the Assistive Technology Certificate (i.e. CSUN ATACP or RESNA ATP) within the first year of employment.

• Experience with ADA compliance issues relating to instructional design for online delivery.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of mobile device accessibility/assistive technology and assistive apps.
