Weber State University seeks applications for the position of Dean of the Library.  The position will be available July 1, 2017.

The Dean of the Library reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, and oversees library services, library faculty and staff, collections and budgeting, information technology adoption and development, digital initiatives and University Archives and Special Collections.  The successful candidate will be responsible for strategic planning and partnerships from the state to the international level, fundraising, advocacy and outreach.

The Library spans 159,062 square feet, and employs 9 faculty, 6 adjuncts and 31 staff, and 25-30 student assistants.  It has an annual budget of $3,886,354 for faculty, staff and resources.  It contains over 411,661 bound volumes, 258,988 electronic resources, and 642,867 microform units.

Enrolling over 25,000 students, Weber State University is a four-year public regional comprehensive institution that provides outstanding educational opportunities in Ogden, Utah.   • MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA accredited institution
  • 5 years of successful experience in academic library administration with progressively higher responsibilities
  • Demonstrated ability in leadership roles within a collaborative environment
  • Experience with budgets and planning in a fiscally-constrained environment
  • Experience advocating for an organization to external stakeholders
  • Effective oral, written and electronic communication skills
  • Good organizational and problem solving skills
  • Expert knowledge of and experience with traditional library functions, emerging technologies, and trends in higher education and their impact on library services
  • Experience with strategic planning


  • A second advanced degree (Master’s or higher) relevant to the position
  • Experience in fundraising and donor relations
  • Distinguished record of librarianship, scholarship/creative activity and service
  • Record of support of faculty and staff development and scholarship


  • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of services designed to support the teaching, learning, and research activities of students, faculty and other constituents
  • Provide vision and strategic planning and direction for the library
  • Oversee the development and enhancement of collections and services in collaboration with faculty, staff and administrators
  • Manage library operations and provide direction in the development and implementation of library policies and procedures
  • Determine fiscal requirements of the library operations; prepare budget recommendation; monitor, verify, and reconcile expenditures of budgeted funds
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance collaborative relationships and partnerships with other libraries and consortia
  • Promote and advocate for library programs that meet the needs of students, faculty, staff, and local and regional communities
  • Recruit, supervise, and provide professional development opportunities within a tenure-track library faculty system, and assess full-time and part-time librarians and staff
  • Foster and support diversity initiatives
  • Promote community and campus outreach
  • Work with the Development Office to secure external funding
