The College of Pharmacy at the University of Michigan is seeking applications at the Associate and Full Professor level for its new Sabbatical Connections Program.  This new program is part of a campus-wide diversity, equity and inclusion initiative.  The program will provide financial support for expenses such as travel, housing, stipend and research supplies.

The goal of this program is to establish long-term professional relationships between the College of Pharmacy and faculty members from minority-serving institutions.  It is hoped that these connections will:

  • facilitate and foster deeper connections with students and faculty at the home institution,
  • enhance understanding of and access to our graduate and professional programs for students at the home institution,
  • create new faculty research collaborations, and
  • enrich the research and academic environments at both institutions.

Sabbatical awardees will work towards developing long-term scholarly relationships with faculty members at Michigan while also fostering interest in our graduate and professional programs among students from their home institution.  In addition to their collaborative research efforts, sabbatical awardees will take advantage of opportunities to share their scholarly contributions with members of the College of Pharmacy and the University at large (e.g., through seminars, special lectures, mini-courses, etc.).  Awardees will be encouraged to share their expertise and knowledge with our College community and learn about us via formal and informal interactions with faculty members, students and staff of the College of Pharmacy.

Interested candidates will submit a C.V., along with a letter addressing how a sabbatical collaborating with one or more of our faculty will advance their research/scholarly activities and build bridges for future research and educational collaboration.  The letter should include a list of faculty/laboratories of interest in the College of Pharmacy. The research areas available in the College of Pharmacy span bench discoveries to bedside treatments:

Applications should be sent to Prof. Ronald Woodard, Department of Medicinal Chemistry, (  Review of materials will begin on April 21, 2017 and will continue until the position is filled.  This program is open to interested faculty of all ranks, without regard to race, ethnicity, or national origin.

Top candidates will be invited to campus where they will have an opportunity to meet with faculty to discuss potential mutually-beneficial projects as well as with members of the selection team.  Tours of campus and the surrounding areas will also be provided.  The selection process will begin immediately until the position is filled, with the sabbatical beginning at a mutually agreed upon time between the candidate and the faculty host (preferably not later than: Fall 2017).
