New England Conservatory seeks a visionary leader to build on its 150-year history of excellence and innovation in educating musicians. The ideal candidate will embrace the integration of the contemporary world and tradition as a catalyst for creating musical excellence.

The new President will work in concert with faculty, staff, students, alumni, the Board of Trustees, and other leading performers and educators, to develop and implement a vision that expands NEC’s impact as a global leader in the world of music. NEC’s collaborative environment, excellence, and culture of innovation and creativity, combined with the full support of the Board of Trustees, will empower the President in this important work.

The ideal candidate for the position of President will have integrity, intellectual curiosity and honesty, high energy, empathy, boldness, open-mindedness, creativity, authenticity, genuine warmth, excellent communication skills, and passion for and knowledge about music, the role of music and musicians in society, and the connection between students and their communities and audiences. They will be a visionary and strategic leader with the ability to work successfully with major stakeholders, including the board, faculty, and staff. The new President must have the ability to lead and support rigorous thinking around contemporary treatments of traditional art forms as well as an understanding of and support for the role of technology in education. The successful candidate will possess the management, academic, and professional credentials commensurate with this important leadership position.
