King’s College, Wilkes-Barre, PA, is seeking its inaugural Dean of Health Sciences.  This position is being created in response to the College’s strategic commitment to the continued development of outstanding health sciences programs, and is a great opportunity for an individual to provide dynamic leadership to this endeavor.

The Dean of the Health Sciences will provide administrative leadership by directing the faculty and curricular affairs of the health sciences programs. The College currently offers an M.S. in Physician Assistant Studies (accredited by ARC-PA), a B.S. in Athletic Training (accredited by CAATE), and a B.S. in Exercise Science.  The College is also collaborating with Luzerne County Community College to offer an innovative new 1+2+1 Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program, with plans to enroll the first class in fall 2018.  Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, key responsibilities include the oversight of academic planning and budgeting, leadership in recruiting and evaluating faculty, leadership in recruiting and developing clinical sites for the College’s programs, and leadership in exploring and developing new health sciences programs.

The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D. or other terminal degree in the health sciences, a substantial record (10 or more years) of excellent undergraduate teaching, professional accomplishment commensurate with senior faculty rank (associate professor or professor), and professional service within the academic community, a minimum of three years of administrative experience as a department chairperson, program director, or dean (which must include significant experience with the recruitment, mentoring, and evaluation of faculty), successful experience in the development and administration of academic policy, academic planning, and budgeting, and prior familiarity with health sciences accrediting processes.  Additionally, the candidate must demonstrate strong support of the Catholic identity and mission of King's College, commitment to the principles of diversity, fairness, and public service, understanding of current issues and future directions in higher education, strong communication, interpersonal and critical problem-solving skills, and the ability to make difficult decisions in a timely manner and to motivate others.

To apply, send one *.pdf file containing a letter of application, CV, and list of at least three references to hrjobs@kings.edu.  References will not be contacted until later in the search process and upon confirmation with the candidates.  To receive full consideration, complete applications must be received by March 31, 2017.  Review of applications will begin at that time and continue until the position is filled.  Ideally, the successful candidate would begin this 12-month administrative appointment on July 1, 2017, but there is some flexibility on the start date.

King’s College is a private, Catholic, teaching college of the liberal arts & sciences and professional programs sponsored by the Congregation of Holy Cross.  The College serves over 2400 FT & PT undergrad & graduate students.  A rigorous core curriculum provides the foundation for all majors.  The College is located near downtown Wilkes-Barre, on the edge of the Pocono Mountains.  King’s is committed to recruiting a diverse faculty and student body and welcomes applications from persons of traditionally under-represented groups.  EOE  www.kings.edu
