Dean of Macquarie Law School
Macquarie University in Australia
|Deadline||March 10, 2017|
|Date Posted||February 12, 2017|
Macquarie is a world-class university for students and staff, recognised globally as one of Australia’s leading research universities; it is rated at 5-stars across all categories by QS World Rankings and in 2016 as the 49th most international university by the Times Higher Education (THE). More than $1Billion has been invested in Macquarie’s facilities and infrastructure recently, ensuring students and staff have access to the best resources available. The parkland campus, just 15 km from the centre of Sydney, is unrivalled by any cosmopolitan city in the world. With the new high-tech library, on-campus private teaching hospital, excellent transport links and cutting-edge facilities, there is considerable opportunity for growth and development of research and commercial partnerships.
Since its establishment in 1972, Macquarie Law School, within the Faculty of Arts, has made its mark in legal education: undertaking innovative research, fostering interdisciplinary approaches to the law, promoting social justice and enhancing understanding of fundamental legal rules and institutions. A commitment to the interdisciplinary study of law and law in context through the incorporation of cross-cultural, comparative and international perspectives, prepares graduates to become leaders in a multiplicity of fields.
This is an exciting time to be joining MLS, with a new building planned and the opportunity to foster a vibrant research culture, with the School highly ranked within the Australian ranking system as above world class (Rank 4). The Dean will lead the School in improving research performance and funding, developing sustainable program-based curriculum, fostering strong collaborations with disciplines across the university and will make a significant personal contribution to the academic standing of the School. As a member of the Faculty of Arts Executive, the Dean has an important role in contributing to the success of the Faculty and the University as a whole.
Macquarie is seeking a visionary leader, able to inspire and unite people and maintain a genuinely collegial, collaborative, high performing culture. The right candidate will have strong strategic skills and a demonstrable track record of academic leadership, and of managing change, resources and people to deliver successful outcomes aligned with the University’s key targets and aspirations. An excellent track record in a research area related to the School and a strong commitment to education are required.
