La Salle University invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean and University Librarian. The Dean and University Librarian will serve as the executive administrator of the Connelly Library as well as the University Archives and the proposed Learning Commons. The Dean and University Librarian provides strategic vision and leadership, working effectively with faculty and staff as an advocate for the Library, the Archives, and eventually the Learning Commons. In this capacity, s/he is responsible for short-term and long-range planning, development and management of library faculty and staff, assessment, budgetary oversight, collection management, fundraising, and facility development.
Minimum qualifications are a Master’s in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited program and seven or more years of general senior level administrative experience in the area of Library Science. A commitment to collaborative and data-driven decision making with a demonstrated record of working effectively with administration, faculty, staff, students, and external constituencies is required. Candidates must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of current issues and trends in academic librarianship and in higher education, have experience with assessment and strategic planning, and be sensitive to the needs of a library belonging to a Catholic university rooted in the liberal arts tradition.
Preference will be given to candidates who have five years or more experience in a college or university library with increasing administrative responsibilities. Additionally, preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated expertise with information technology and library systems, who demonstrate a commitment to higher education at the undergraduate and graduate levels and who have experience with developing archives, special collections, and learning commons initiatives. Preferred candidates will demonstrate a commitment to ensuring the Library’s services and collections are deeply embedded with the University’s mission and priorities. Preferred candidates will also have effective management and leadership skills and strong interpersonal skills in working effectively with colleagues, mentoring staff, and resolving personnel issues.
