Founded in 1865, Bowie State is the oldest Historically Black College/University in Maryland and one of the ten oldest in the country. While remaining true to its founding mission, the University has become a broadly diverse community whose 5,600 students, along with faculty and staff, represent many ethnic and cultural backgrounds. The Economist magazine, in 2015, ranked Bowie State the best educational value among all Maryland institutions. According to U.S. News & World Report’s 2017, Bowie State University is ranked #26 nationally among HBCUs and is among the best Regional Universities in the North.

A strikingly beautiful campus features several new buildings including a state-of-the-art Fine and Performing Arts Center and a LEED Gold certified Student Center. A new Center for Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Nursing slated for completion in 2017, will expand research facilities and the capacity for interdisciplinary collaboration.

Through its four colleges, Bowie State offers a rigorous, liberal arts-based academic program with real world experiences inside and outside the classroom that prepare students to compete in a changing world. In addition to 23 undergraduate majors, Bowie State offers 38 master’s, doctoral, and advanced certification programs with specific focus on science, technology, business, education and related disciplines. The University’s programs in cyber security education have been recognized by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security as models of excellence.

Preferred qualifications for this position include an earned terminal degree in an academic discipline from an accredited university; a record of progressive senior-level administrative and managerial experience in complex organizations that include responsibilities for significant human, financial and capital resources, strategic planning, guiding and/or implementing the vision and mission of an organization.
